Description:

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions...

Fremantle Prison is one of Western Australia’s premier tourist attractions and the only World Heritage listed building in the State. The Prison was built by convicts in the 1850s and was used as a place of incarceration for almost 140 years. With solitary cells and gallows Fremantle Prison is a monument to a system of punishment that is uncomfortably recent. Fremantle Prison now holds the key to history, mystery and fun. Step inside and do time with experienced guides on a fascinating Prison Day Tour. Explore the labyrinth of tunnels 20m beneath the Prison by foot and by boat on a Tunnels Tour adventure. Feeling brave? Delve into the darker side of the Prison’s history on an eerie Torchlight Tour.

My family of 4 went to this tour on 30 Nov, 9.15pm the last night tour slot at Fremantle Prison. What a great experience touring the prison grounds at night, learning the history of it, getting some little scares along the way, including hearing some ghost stories.... The guide, Simon, was very entertaining, able to build rapport with the group... More

The Fremantle prison tour is interesting enough but is too long. It has been subdivided into two tours: “Doing time” and “Great escapes.” We all felt the tours were somewhat redundant and ended up taking too much time at about 1:15 each. They could be combined into a single 1:30 tour. That being said, the prison is worth a visit... More

We did the 'Doing Time' tour and learned about the prisoners' daily life in jail. We got to see different parts of the prison, the solitary confinement cells and execution rooms were super spooky! Our guide, Justin, was very knowledgeable, informative and funny. He shared interesting story and historical facts about the convicts. In overall, we and our 10 y.o.... More

We journeyed to Fremantle from Perth, taking the train to the Fremantle station. From there we walked to the prison. Visitors are allowed access to the immediate grounds, but to access other (most) areas, a $20 ticket must be purchased to be part of a tour. We spent maybe 90 minutes here, which was mostly due to the hour tour.... More

I have been here twice. It is a must-visit for people from overseas or interstate. The tour guides are always knowledgeable and helpful. The night tours are probably the best; you get a sense of the horror it was for the prisoners.

What an interesting and scary way to walk back through history, very informative, a little bit whitty but also scary. I recommend doing the late as possible time slot! Prepare for a few surprises!

There are several tours you can do but we chose The Escapes Tour and the Doing Time Tour which were 1hr 15 each in duration. Also if you did the 2 tours you got a big discount. We gave ourselves half an hour break between the 2 tours which gave us time for a coffee and a cake! The Tour... More

The Tunnel tour was fantastic. The guides all have a wonderful sense of humour and along with all the informative facts there are lots of laughs too. The serious stuff of climbing down into the tunnels is well covered and not a problem at all. If you are reasonably fit and supple being 60 or over my advise would be... More
