We visited the Picton area while on a cruise and so docked at the container pier, and had to get a shuttle into town. The town is small, but very pleasant with a lovely waterfront. There was a craft market when we were there. We walked through town and hiked the Track to Bob's Bay and back. This was a... More

We arrived very early for our ferry, so took the opportunity to walk all aroud the harbour for an hour or two, and explored the main street with its plethora of book shops and cafes. The marina is beautiful, and the many yachts and motor cruisers bobbed gracefully on the almost still pure blue waters. It was a pleasure to... More

Drove from Havelock to Picton. Absolutely beautiful scenery. Highly recommended part of New Zealand to travel.

Delightful small town with a gorgeous harbour and plenty to do. Stayed at Top 10 holiday park which caters for everyone - lovely cabins. Also did the Postal boat trip which was awesome.

If you don't have time to get on a boat and do the Queen charlotte track and the Marlborough Sound, that's a nice second option (or if you have enough time, do both!). It's free, accessible from Picton by foot and you get nice views of the water and the town. The walk is easy ans you can even se... More

This a great place for travellers and locals alike. The waterfront offers a walk around to the ferry terminal there are cafes close by and places for the kids to play.

Travelled on a Beachcomber Boat from Picton Marina to Camp Bay and return from Ship Cove. Awesome weather and nice calm day too. Heaps of wildlife out today, seals, dolphins and birds. On the return journey the boat spent about 10 mins cruising around with a pod of about 20 dolphins joining us. As usual with the South Island harbours... More

This is an amazing place where you can take a boat ride and see first hand the isolation of some properties and people just like it was 100 years ago. Or you can take on one of the many walking trails around Picton and loose yourself in the flora and fauna on offer within the bushland / forests. Picton is... More

Picton sound is a wonder of nature. One can imagine that this is toward the end of God's creation when (s)he had got the hang of it. It is a stunning place. So beautiful it is hard to put into words. Picton is lovely town too - which is unusual for a ferry town (in my experience). If you are... More

I recently took a visitor from Auckland (her first experience in the south island) and she was absolutely taken with the verdant bush surrounding the delightful little seaside town of Picton. It is definately worth a few hours spent wandering the streets, stopping in tiny shops or at the delicious cafes that line the water front.
