Amtrak: There were so many announcements from the dining car, conductor including when folks were taking a break and need for reservations, it was irritating. Would have rated a 4 if the dining announcements wasn't so annoying and aggressive. Got on in Seattle and travelled over night to Emoryville, CA. A bus is waiting to take passengers to San Fran,... The Coast Starlight is a choice Amtrak train, with the restored Parlour Car giving a second dinning option, wifi, wine tastings, movie screenings, and comfortable seating for passengers sitting in first class. And so long as you're in first class - get the ensuite room. Not just for the private toilet and shower, but the orientation of the beds. US... More

I took this train (sleeper) from Seattle to LA. Going past Mt St Helens was breathtaking, stopping in places like Eugene and Portland, was great - sees Washington States Heartland. Then going to sleep as we ascend the Everglades in a comfy turn downed bed. Woke up and the landscape at dawn had changed! Went over the bridge adjacent San... More

As noted by others, our train was late but you are guaranteed to get to your destination. Our train picked time up so we had no problem connecting with the Empire. Our roomette was ready for bed when we boarded and as it was almost midnight , we squeezed in. it is a small area but you do get to... More

I have taken all four of the Chicago to West Coast trains and this Coastal train. My most recent trip was Santa Barbara, CA to Portland, OR in a roommette and a bedroom (I have a family of 5). I have not done any of the trips by coach and have no interest in doing so. I am going to... More

We had a great time on the train ride. My husband and I did this for our anniversary. We are both in our early 50s and have traveled quite a bit. The scenery was breathtaking at times and it was so relaxing watching the towns go by. I loved seeing so many different places I hadn't seen before. The train... More

Traveling on the Amtrak Coast Starlight was like being on a luxury sailboat. I saw spectacular scenery in pristine remote locations and graffiti art in urban areas only visible by train. The trip was relaxing and the observation car was one of my favorite places for looking out over the of the vast ocean, sunsets over lakes and mountain ranges... More

We arrived from Australia the day before and were looking for an alternative to US airports and all of the hassle of air travel. We thought the train trip would be a lovely way to travel to Seattle and to be fair it was. Everything that was good about it was really external to the train. The scenery, the trip... More

My wife and I boarded the train in Portland just for the quick trip to Seattle. I had an Amtrak credit that was going to expire so we upgraded to a sleeper car. After boarding, an announcement was made for wine tasting in the Parlor Car and we went up for it. We were poured three small glasses of wine... More

We ride trains all over the world including China and never have we experienced worse and more dilapidated equipment and track. The double bedroom we had was over 45 years old and very badly designed in the firsrt place. It was non functional and extremely uncomfortable. The trip was wonderful anyway because we saw scenery that we would have missed... More
