The bikeway is terrific, running from Alewife Station quite a way west, at least to Bedford. I can only speak for the bikeway in Arlington and Lexington. The truth is, we needed about a dozen bikeways, to serve the multitude of types of users: walkers, runners, bike racers, little kids learning with training wheels, dog walkers, parents with little kids,... Wonderful, well-maintained pathway for walkers, runners, and bikers. During commute hours, the bikeway is fairly crowded with bike commuters. However, it's also a nice place to run, especially outside of commute hours. It is well-maintained even through the winter months. Since bikers, runners, and walkers all share the pathway, it's important to stay alert, especially when passing others, as people... More

Excellent dedicated bike path with just a few distruptions. Lots of entry points in Somerville, Cambridge and Arlington. Nice mix of bikers, runners and walkers.

Walk or bike from Bedford Lexington line to Lexington center for breakfast or brunch - very relaxing. This is a great family activity with lots of places to stop and enjoy nature. most people are friendly and courtesy.

The Massachusetts bike community worked for years to get this old railroad track turned into a bikeway. The good news is: they persisted and won. The bad news is: all those neighbors who resisted it for years now think it's a wonderful place to do just about everything except bike. It's delightful at the right times, and more and more... This like most bike trails can be very busy during peak hours. There is one drawback; cyclists, runners, and walkers are left to separate themselves and not everyone knows the rules of the road.

Rose from Bedford through Lexington to the Starbucks in Arlington - very relaxing. This is a great family activity with lots of places to stop and enjoy nature (and not too many "serious" bikers that focus on themselves and how fast they can go at the expense of everyone else...)

Yes, it's busy on the weekends, but generally I go during the week so I can enjoy and easy, tree-lined ride through this picturesque area. There are places to stop as you go although you have to get off the path for most of them) and it's very pleasant to see the leaves as they turn and return. I've been... More

I love biking the trail from one end to the other (Cambridge to Bedford). It is less busy midday and midweek.
