Great paddle from Shelburn bridge to Bethel, River has nice current with lots of riffles. Very scenic, open views of surrounding mountains. A very relaxing trip. Saw Bald Eagles, Ospreys, Herons and Geese along with a variety of songbirds. It's a easy 4 1/2 to five hour run. First of all, the Androscoggin doesn't empty into Lake Umbagog, it's head waters start at the lake and the lake empties into the river. Second, I agree it's a beautiful place but there are now too many canoes and kayaks that get so close to the loons that they can see the red eyes that there are diminishing numbers of... More
