One of my favorite places to bring out of towners. Be sure to do a docent-led visit so you can learn the history of the building and understand the symbolism of the architecture and statues. This is truly a temple to knowledge and learning - and not to be missed by any scholar, teacher or book lover.

Located at the Jefferson Building which also contains all the surviving books and papers donated by Thomas Jefferson to start the Library. Surprisingly we accessed the building via an exquisite subterranean walkway from inside the Capitol Building. First, you must sign up for a guided tour which can be arranged beforehand even your arrival in Washington. You enter the first... More

This is truly an amazing building, both inside and out. The interior is stunning and while it only takes 30 mins to experience it, it is well worth it. There were a couple of interesting exhibitions when we visited which also added to the attraction.

This is just behind The Capitol Building with fountains in the front and is certainly worth a visit. We didn't do a guided tour which I understand is worthwhile but just to see the inside of the building is magnificent. There is a tunnel that leads to The Capitol building so you only have to go through security once -... More

Amazing, amazing, amazing! Getting to spend time researching here was definitely a bucket-list item I enjoyed ticking off. The reading room staff were so professional and gave great insight into the archives I was viewing. Although it didn't take away from a super visit, the main desk staff were needlessly snooty and unhelpful, which delayed me a little bit in... More

Had a great time at these exhibits at the Library. Of course the actual highlight was looking down, up and sideways at all the artwork in the library. The Gutenberg Bible was impressive too. Other exhibits but ran out of time.

This is the oldest cultural institution in the federal government. 161 million items total. 35 million books. 375+ miles of shelves. 22,000+ items each day added. One hour guided tours are available on a walk-up basis. You can also reserve tours and arrange tours through your congressional offices. There are also theme-based tours available via reservation. An 'audio boost' headphone... More

Highly recommend going on one of the tours that they offer. The tour we went on was an architecture tour of the building. The tour guide was very informative and brought our attention to and elaborated on all kinds of small details that we probably would have never noticed on our own. Overall, it was a fun experience.
