Its just too crowded with school trips this time of year. Its incredibly crowded and there are long lines to wait on to get through security. I tried an Imax theater movie for $9 and it was a waste of money. It was only 45 minutes and basically a Subaru commercial. Not impressed.

This was a great museum, so much to see! While the admission was free, the cafe was very expensive so eat before or after you go. All bags will be searched, but you are allowed to bring water bottles in. I would highly recommend anyone in the area visit this museum!

Wow, what a collection of gems and minerals! Never seen something similar anywhere else in the world. Especially the collection of diamonds is mind blowing, with the "crown" juwel the Hope diamond. The specimens of gems and minerals are fantastic to see. The museum is well setup for kids educational needs and very informative. A great museum and a must... More

Lets face it, kids love dinosaurs, and you'll find them here. Also lots of exhibits on natural history, Great displays of Gems and Minerals including many finished pieces of fine jewelry, It can get a little crowded in the summer, but still worth it.

My family and I spent several hours at this museum with our 5 and 3 year old. Both were fascinated by the exhibits, their favorites were the Ocean Hall and the American Dinosaurs. Everything was well displayed, it is easy to spend most of the day in the museum. For an additional fee you can watch one of the IMAX... More

Just being in Washington DC was surreal! We love museums! But you do have to like history to see this one, I think.

Together with the National Gallery of Art this is my favourite museum in DC: here you have besides amazing exhibits well organised and displayed, all free, the chance to pay extra and join a small queue to visit and be 'touched' by gorgeous butterflies, or buy amazing pieces of amethyst, quarts in their gift shop located near the precious stone... Yes, this is an "old style" museum. But it is one of my favorites in D.C. My daughter and I are rockhounds and love the gem displays. We also love looking at all of the fossils and skeletons. Kids love this museum because of the ability to get some hands on with interactive displays. The mammals display is my least... More
