Tripadvisorā€™s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This bridge connects Arlington National Cemetery with Washington DC. A walk from the National Mall is easy and pleasant, albeit a bit challenging. The panorama of Potomac River and downtown Arlington is particularly impressive. Metro connection available on the Virginia side.

The Arlington Memorial Bridge connects people to Arlington Cemetery on the west side of the Potomac River and the Lincoln Memorial and the National Mall on the east side. Best appreciated if you walk the bridge as a pedestrian. It is a straight shot from the Lincoln Memorial across the bridge to Arlington Cemetery.

PROS
ā€¢ Famous historical bridge- remember for the JFK funeral procession
ā€¢ It connects major national monuments and shrines
ā€¢ It has decorative statues at its ends
ā€¢ It can be crossed by foot or on bicycle, but there are always obstacles

CONS
ā€¢ Major traffic thoroughfare
ā€¢ It is always under construction somewhere at some point and area
ā€¢ The traffic circle at the entrance/exit to Virginia is unclear and counter- intuitive and confusing

ā€œI VISITED THIS PLACEā€ā€¦
ā€¦ when coming from the U.S. Marine Corps Monument to the Lincoln Memorial.

That aforementioned traffic circle is a source of consternation for me- it is dangerous from so many cars, and unclear where the turnoffs are.

Pay attention and use Waze or Google maps.

We spent the day in Washington as a break from New York City and the whole experience was fab. You need to pick up the Trolley Tour from the station and hop on, hop off so you see all of the fabulous attractions, Arlington being one of them

Arlington Memorial Bridge opened to traffic back in 1932 and currently the bridge is undergoing a major rehabilitation. The bridge connect the nation's capital to Arlington National Cemetery.
The bridge regarded as Washington DCā€™s most beautiful bridge. The bridge is a national memorial symbolizing reunification of the North and the South following the Civil War.

PROS
* Elegant, stately, world famous and historic
* Connecting outstanding landmarks on both ends- the stately Lincoln Memorial and the solemn Arlington National Cemetery

CONS
* Traffic patterns are confusing

ā€œI VISITED THIS PLACEā€ā€¦
ā€¦ when driving between Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Washington DC

For more details, see my review from last year, two below this one and written on July 8, 2022.

I was happy to see that there was no construction this time.

ADVICES
For sure go- walk or bicycle or car- is scenic in either direction and Iā€™m not even sure which one I prefer.

If driving, use Waze and need very careful and cautiouu u s at the traffic circles and merged roads on both ends of the bridge- very confusing.

A bridge connecting Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery - it's much closer that it seems to be, so consider taking a walk instead of using public transportation. While the views are very nice, the cars on the bridge may be a nuisance.

After crossing the river and highway, and just before entering the Cemetery, on the right is the Monument to the efforts of the Sea Bee's for their accomplishments in WW II. My dad was a Sea Bee in the Korean War, so it was particularly meaningful to see this. The Sea Bee's are the Naval Construction Battalion, thus C.B., who were responsible for building much of the infrastructure necessary to move men and material for invasions in Italy and France in the European theater, and for creating the "road" through the Pacific that stretches from Hawaii to Okinawa that enabled the Marines to island hop through the Pacific theater campaign. The Sea Bee's motto is "Can Do".. and they did

It's a very old bridge with a lot of history. It reminds me of the Pont au Change bridge in Paris. The one with Napoleon's imperial insignia, only this one isn't as ornate as the Pont au Change. Also, the Arlington Memorial Bridge is much longer. I believe the architectural style of both of these bridges is about the same.

Anyway, it's the bridge you cross from the Lincoln Memorial to get to Arlington Cemetery. It's a very long walk. I know people walk the full way, but you can get to the National Cemetery by metro or taxi just as easily. It was raining on the day that we arrived there. People were slipping on the wet sidewalks and getting injured. It was worth it for us to pay the extra money to cross the bridge.

Travelers to Washington D.C. cannot miss this bridge. It is a ceremonial bridge linking between the Arlington Cemetery in Arlington VA to the South end of the National Mall where the Lincoln Memorial is located. To see the grand view of the Avenue, the best two places to see are top of the Hill at Kennedy Grave site or at the back of Lincoln memorial. During the Cherry Blossom time, the grove nearby has beautiful blossoms. To see the design and detail of the design, stay on West Potomac Park or the old steps from the top of land down to the parkway and the river. Sunset view of the bridge on the Potomac is best on D.C. side.
