I really liked this but my 9 year old not so much. A ton to look at but a lot of reading on my part which he did not really have the patience for.

This has always been a favorite of our family whenever we are in the area. We always make a point to stop here and eat lunch at the Cascade Cafe. My personal favorite is the West wing in the modern art section of the museum...More

Even for them, who are not interested of art. The building itself already is impressive. Museum staff gives you map with instructions, where to find most important pictures. The best finding was one portrait, which was very similar to 3D technology. At least in february...More

Almost overwhelming in the amount of work that can be viewed. Choose one artist or one section to view at a time and return again and again to really appreciate this museum.

If you like fine art, the permanent collection is very impressive and includes many pieces that we did not see in Paris and Amsterdam (admission free)

All the DC museums are free, so you do not need to rush through. This is our national treasure: art through the ages up to the present day. It's all here, early European, Renaissance, Baroque, Neo-Classical, Impressionist, Modern, Conceptual. There are multiple somethings for everybody.

Who knew a 15 year old would love the National Gallery of Art. But she did. Went on a Sunday and there was no wait, no line, no crowds. We enjoyed it... it was a really good way to spend a couple of hours. And...More

The architecture of the gallery is amazingly beautiful. The fountain and courtyard are gorgeous. Even though we just had time to see the collection of oil paintings we appreciate the opportunity to see many beautiful paintings with interesting stories.

I looked at the NGA's website. They have the largest collection of Escher outside Holland, which is probably why you are interested. I couldn't check to see if all 400 works are currently "on view," but for the ones I did... More

21st January 2018. Not easy to see Vermeers in the US, so well worth a special trip to visit this exhibition!
