Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

While we were in Washington, D.C. I decided to take my son on a short visit to Howard University.  I simply wanted him to see a college campus because he often reminds me that he will one day go to college.  I realize that moment will happen in just nine short years and he will have to make a decision regarding which university to attend.
We enjoyed our brief visit to the beautiful campus of Howard University.  We encountered many polite students who directed us to where we needed to go because of our lack of familiarity with the campus.  Howard has a lovely campus and we were able to see the Howard University Library and visit the bookstore.  In addition, it was nice to see students who were in the college of dentistry walking down the street (all dressed in their dentistry jackets)on the way to class.  I wanted my son to see that he has a future filled with endless possibilities and those students were an excellent example. Our visit to Howard University gave him a sneak peek into the world of college and for that I am grateful.  We definitely enjoyed our campus visit to Howard University.

This historically black university was chartered in 1867. It's known as 'The Mecca' because it's the largest HBCU with more than 15,000 students of all origins, races, and cultures. It's a beautiful sprawling campus located just to the north of the Shaw neighborhood. This university provides top-notch education, with it's law school, hospital, radio and television stations, and an all-around spirit of excellence! Forgive me if I'm gushing--it's my alma mater.

Howard is with out doubt one of the jewels of Washington DC. Howard is a historcal university that has educated some of the most successful Black Americans in the country. The campus is wonderful and do stop by the bookstore and by yourself or a family member some swag! Howard University is an excellent option for deep learning and fellowship with the future of America!

I took a long walk this am and ended up at the Howard Campus. I was struck by how lovely some of the architecture is on the campus. I enjoyed my walk and felt privileged to see this HBCU. As an educator, I think it’s important to have institutions like Howard.

As a member of a Black Greek Letter Organization (AKA), I was ecstatic to visit here! Such an honor to visit here! I went on a Sunday when the campus was closed, but I was able to visit The Yard.

Howard University was established in 1868, specifically to offer opportunities for African American citizens. Today Howard is a major research institution, known for its fine medical school and hospital. This urban campus has an interesting mixture of 19th and early 20th century brick and limestone architecture, and contemporary buildings of steel and glass.

Such a pleasure and honor visiting this grand, historic HBCU. Beautiful architecture. I visited the area around the school over 10 years and the change is phenomenal - well done to those that have assisted in redeveloping the area around this historic school! I was able to walk through the campus and visit some of the historic sites (DST proud!) and also visited the bookstore, which is plentiful with souvenir items. Would definitely visit again!

Howard University is one of the premier Historically Black Colleges in the US. it is basically a small liberal arts college with an attractive urban campus.
But, there is so much history of the African American experience that lives in the buildings and grounds that it should be visited.
One of the best places to visit is the Founders Library right on the main quad - The Yard. The building is almost 80 years old and is houses a research center that has one of the foremost collections of documents concerning the black global experience.
This is an important place to visit and it is easy to get to. There are vast crowds at the NMAAH who might want to round out their experience here where the history is alive.
