As you walk around the Potomac basin there are a few of these items to see. Being a dog person I appreciated this memorial/Statue.

FDR hated war. He was never in the service, but he saw the after effects of it and it bothered him to the core. He was only photographed 2 times in his wheelchair. The press protected him. You would NEVER see that today from news reporters today. He was a great man who believed in the United States and the people of the United States.

Yes he was the longest running US President but the sheer size of his memorial was impressive! Walking you through the big events of his four terms and honoring his wife Eleanor, this is a memorial that takes time but is worth it. Tucked along the Tidal Basin between the Jefferson and MLK Memorials.

I did not give this outdoor brilliant memorial enough time (traveling with family). I highly recommend that one take time to read all of the writings inscribed everywhere. Wonderful and very moving. Others described all of this better, and I just am adding my opinion: go see it. Take time. Immerse yourself. Going on a cool day definitely was a plus.

I came to see the statue of FDR:s dog, but I was impressed and surprised by the size and ambition of this monument. It really gives you a feel for the lenght and importance of FDR:s tenure. Well, and for one of his dogs too.
