Fantastic Service and Superb Relaxation
Jul 2021 • Couples
One of our first post-pandemic experiences, and it was completely worthwhile. The facilities are clean, the staff go over the top to ensure your comfort, and the massage was spectacular. The food and drinks after the massage is a special treat. The director of the spa came to the relaxation room to personally greet us, and was just the most hospitable host we’ve ever had. This wasn’t our first visit, and it won’t be our last!

Make this your post-pandemic pampering destination!

My wife and I got the couples massage with Shakira and Stella. Both of them are some of the most talented masseurs we’ve ever encountered, having plenty of both physical prowess and energetic sensitivity. Beyond that, the hospitality is top notch.

Spa Day
A well deserve 100% experience from beginning to end, impeccable service from valet, upon entering the reception area and being directed to the SPA ... to a warm and friendly greeting by the spa director and staff ... ABSOLUTELY made my heavenly spa evening at the Mandarin Oriental DC location one to everrrr remember and fit for this much needed birthday celebrations that followed after ...... facilities were extremely clean, highly professional staff.... who ensured that safety and health precautions were in place per covid, explained all procedures ... very informative upon type of exquisite service (SPA) given/received ... I felt exclusively special, not just because of my birthday... it's how they made me feel ... thats truly one of a kind service from everyone I encountered.... I WILL definitely go back for many more needful SPA days... it has been one of the best places/service after searching a long time to feel what a spa day should be and given ... 💗

Birthday Treat
Jan 2020 • Family
My birthday is coming up soon and the only thing that I asked for was to get a massage. My wife ensured that she would honor my request and got me a massage at the spa in the Mandarin Oriental DC. I can honestly say that this was one of the BEST massages that I have received. My masseuse took her time to make sure that she made my massage memorable. The spa was well kept. Clean and offered a cooling pool, showers, sauna and more. I would highly recommend this spa

Best spa experience ever!,m
I took my BFF for a spa day as a special birthday present. We were treated like royalty! Special shout out to Shakira for a massage and Tonya for a facial. I have been to dozens of spas but nothing beats this one. I also thought the spa manager was waRm, gracious and friendly. Whole heartedly recommend!m

Love this Spa - #myhappyplace
Nov 2019 • Solo
After too many months to count since my last trip, I made it to The Spa for a 50min Oriental Essence massage with Andrew. On a cold Nov day, The Spa was warm and welcoming and did not disappoint. The service was impeccable, the facilities perfect, the massage phenomenal. I just love when every detail is attended to - the soothing music, the healing oils, the plush black robes, the figs and raw almonds, the hot tea, the soothing lights and the quiet. I was ready to hibernate in the steam room. I can’t recommend The Spa more highly. I’m one happy, relaxed, and rejuvenated - lady!

Disappointing Lobby Service
May 2019 • Solo
I have had the distinct pleasure of visiting the Mandarin Spa for professional relaxation services over the course of 5 years. The service I receive - once in the Spa - is exemplary.

The aesthetician and masseuse are always attentive and give great attention to detail and my personal preferences. Particularly, I wish to spotlight the top-shelf treatment received by my aesthetician, Tonia.

Unfortunately, once I leave the Spa area, the lobby staff are cold, dismissive and not welcoming. This atmosphere has remained constant and I believe is a blight on the Mandarin brand. Once I enter the lobby, no one greets me or asks if I need assistance. I am not certain why there is such a stark contrast in the level of service and attentiveness.

Honestly, I was going to request poolside lunch but opted not to do so given the chilly response I, once again, received upon my entry.

To date, the customary excellence within the Mandarin Spa has moved me to be a loyal customer. I would hate to forego my spa treatments because of the inconsistent service received once I leave this area of the hotel. Given the financial investment and time commitment spent at this establishment, I expect a different experience and hope this review serves as a prompting to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel staff and managers.

Overpriced, Lazy Specialists, Sub-par experience, Complacent Management
Feb 2019 • Couples
Below is a summary of the feedback that I sent to the management of the Spa at the Mandarin Oriental in DC.
After reading some of the reviews that have occurred over the past few years, I realized that similar themes keep emerging. The Spa Manager's response was so dismissive, complacent and full of grammatical errors that I had to post a review here - and of course their response.

Cannot Schedule Correctly
The Spa sent us an agenda in advance for our 6 hour spa day. The Agenda was incorrect. The schedule indicated that the first treatment was at 10:30am. So, imagine our surprise when we arrived at 9am and we were rushed to our first treatment. We were rushed throughout the remainder of our stay. Not very relaxing.

Rude Staff.
The front desk attendant, Maria should not be working in customer service. Full Stop. Enough said. Among other things, she kept confusing the last names of my wife and I. In addition, she was very loud and aggressive. Even most Hampton Inns take the time to get to know their guests. Not this place.

Worst Facial Ever
I have had facials and other treatments done all over the United States and the Caribbean at the best resorts one can go to - including the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas (before it changed hands). The facial that I got at this Spa - was the most rushed, lazily-administered, ineffective facial I have ever received.
The "specialist" did not do steam or cleanse my face at all.
He did not give me any options (between hot facial and cold) he just chose the cold facial and literally rushed through everything.
He proceeded to douse my face with at least half a dozen products in rapid succession - not even giving time for one product to be absorbed before applying another. Did he explain them? Yes, but after about the 6th product, I just didn't care.
As soon as I returned to my room, I immediately washed all of the gunk and product off of my face.
He clearly did not look at my face carefully. He kept mentioning that several products were for fine lines and wrinkles. I have no fine lines and no wrinkles. I DO have combination skin and I mentioned that is a concern of mine. He did nothing to treat that condition nor did he recommend anything.

Meal By the Pool Sounds Nice, Right?....NOT
As another reviewer mentioned over a year ago, the pool is not suitable for Spa meals. During our visit there were loud kids splashing and playing in the pool - as they should since they are kids. BUT I think the hotel should come up with a more suitable place other than a family changing room to serve lunch for visitors that prefer a quiet, peaceful setting.

Weird Bugs
One weird thing I observed was that there were little hopping flies or insects in the massage treatment room. They didn't bother me or bite me -- I just was left wondering why the Mandarin Oriental would not ensure that such insects are dealt with.

Locker Room
The locker room, while not messy as others have reported, was out of both mouthwash and tissues whilst we were there. I would expect someone to anticipate and refill those two things proactively.

The response from the Spa is attached below. Grammatical errors are highlighted in purple for your amusement.
