We just kind of happened on this US Postal Museum and were pleasantly surprised by the small displays inside and then the large displays on another floor. It was really interesting to us and we felt we found an almost secret museum. I'd not heard...More

I really liked it. I especially loved the story of the dog who went from place to place and person to person - very cool.

Make sure to see this. There is a stage coach downstairs. Lots of information. Great collection of stamps.

Wow this place really surprised me. Much more interesting than expected with lots of interactive exhibits for children and adults. Totally free your tax dollars at work. Outstanding for a stamp collector but equally interesting for a non colllector. Great for a two hour visit

The National Postal Museum is a hidden gem. Sure it’s much smaller than most of the national museums in DC. But none of the other museums have Owney, the adorable dog mascot! Plus because it’s smaller, it’s a quiet and relaxing visit. The bonus is...More

This museum is full of history of the US postal industry. There are horse carts, trains, semi-truck, and a plane. You can get in most of the vehicles. There is a cool interactive postage making computer. The only problem with this museum is the staff....More

This is right next to Union Station/Red Line. I love the permanent exhibit that tells you what happens when you send a letter. They also have one on security and how they can track down the sending location of something like an anthrax letter. This...More

I don’t know if I would make a special trip here but it was a pleasant way to spend an hour or so on a rainy afternoon. There is a stamp gallery but there’s way more on the postal service in general. I can’t say...More

Entering the Postal Museum from the Union Station side (not sure if there are other entrances), you have to look at one of the table maps to realize you're not in the main museum area, but the second floor of the three-level venue. The second...More

Thanks for taking the time to visit. We're lucky enough to be located in the former DC City Post Office that opened in 1914! We're one of the few Smithsonian museums who occupy a historic building, not one built specifically for our collections. Our museum...More

This is a specialty museum yet more a lens into US History through the view of the Mail Service. The exhibits were well done and in good shape, with just enough descriptions to keep my interest. I was surprised by the variety of displays and...More
