About History on Foot: Detective James McDevitt -Day Tour
On the night of April 14, 1865, Detective James McDevitt was on duty at the Washington Metropolitan Police headquarters, a half-block from Ford’s Theatre. Just before 10:30, frantic witnesses rushed in with horrifying news: President Lincoln had been shot at the theatre. Join Detective McDevitt as he revisits the sites and reexamines the clues from the investigation into the Lincoln Assassination Conspiracy. Investigation: Detective McDevitt lasts approximately two hours and makes at least eight stops throughout the story. The distance walked is approximately 1.6 miles from Ford’s Theatre to the White House. Wear comfortable shoes. Investigation: Detective McDevitt runs March through October.

After hearing the details of Lincoln's assassination at Ford's Theatre and the Petersen Boarding House, it is only fitting to follow up with a walking tour given by an actor portraying Det. James McDevitt, the lead investigator into the killing of Lincoln. The tour takes...More

This is a very interesting walking tour of almost all the places associated with the plot to assassinate President Lincoln, Vice President Johnson, and Secretary Seward in 1865. The actor who portrayed police detective McDevitt was interesting and informative as he walked us around town...More

This is a great tour! It's a close look at the Lincoln assassination, with details on the overall conspiracy that don't get covered in US history classes. It's also a nice, easy walk and a way to see the city from a totally different perspective....More
