I live nearby and we've visited a couple of times sticking to the main walkways. It's not a tough walk. We plan to go again and take the actual mine tour. The area is beautiful especially in spring when the surrounding hills are green. The displays at the mine entrance make for an interesting visit even if you don't do... More

Its also very close home for anyone in the east bay or solano county. Just make sure you watch your belongings as... More

Who knew such an interesting site was just off Highway 4 (the Delta Hwy.)? There are underground mine tunnels, display cases and guided tours explaining the history of the 'Black Diamond (coal) mine. We took our 10 year old twins and their friends on their birthday to wonder at this historical site. Dress warm it's cool there!

This is part of the East Bay Regional Park District so is well-maintained and eco-friendly. There is an old coal mine, for which the park is named, and the entrance has been rebuilt and shored up so you can go down into the mine, when it s open, and not worry about coal dust or other hazards. There are miles... More

Grandsons really enjoyed hike into the mine. So cool inside compared to hot day outside. Really interesting view into history of East Contra Costa County.
