Lover’s Cove is located just a few minutes walk from the center of Avalon,...

Lover’s Cove is located just a few minutes walk from the center of Avalon, just off the coast of Southern California on the beautiful island of Catalina. Lover’s Cove is an eco-rich marine sanctuary, protected by the State of California and free of mainland pollution and surf. In the clean, clear waters of Lover’s Cove, an undersea garden of giant kelp harbors dozens of species of fish and invertebrates, including sea stars, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, lobsters and octopus. Bright orange Garibaldi, plentiful and tame, are as bold as their coloring and are known to eat right out of your hand! Deep in the heart of Lover's Cove, Catalina Snorkel and Scuba – the only shop of its kind on the island - is located directly across the street from the Cove’s waterfront. While its accessibility and exclusivity make it a convenient choice, it is Catalina Snorkel and Scuba’s expertise and experiential approach to snorkeling that makes it such a popular stop for Catalina visitors. With all its treasures, Lover’s Cove is truly a snorkeler’s paradise – and a perfect destination for individuals and families alike. Lover’s Cove… …Is the place to go!

We have snorkeled here before so tried a new area first and immediately knew we had to come back to this spot. You see more fish at this location and have a better chance of clear water. This time we did notice that lot of the coral seemed to be dead or dying. Very sad. Last time everything was very... More

There are so many fish here! While there are lots of fish there aren't too many types of fish, juts 4-7. But 100% come and snorkel here.

Had a wonderful time snorkeling at Lover's Cove. The fish are so vibrant. Saw a sea turtle and baby stingray as well. The water was a perfect temperature to cool is off after a bike ride around the island. Be sure to bring water shoes. Climbing in the rocks and walking on the pebbles to get to the water was... My family and I went on two different days. The first day, the water was clear and you could see a variety of fish. We snorkeled for at least 1.5 hours and time just passed by quickly. The second day, the water was a little bit murky, maybe because there were more individuals stirring up the water. Too many people... More

This is a great place to take pictures, you should definitely bring your camera with two lenses for close and far pictures. Make sure to bring comfortable shoes and a backpack. There is a place where you can snorkel and if you have a camera you can even catch a picture of the fish in the water, submarine up close... More

Lover's Cove is just a short walk from where we got off the Catalina Express that we rode over from Dana Point. My 19 year old daughter and I did a traditional snorkeling tour with Dave and his staff from Diving Catalina. I learned from other reviews that Lover's Cove and Catalina in general has some of the best snorkeling... More

After reading all the reviews, we choose to go at high tide in the morning so it wouldn't be so crowded. It is tricky getting in the water at high tide. The stairs go straight into the water so there really is no place to put anything. We tied our towels to the railing and since we were the only... More

Some of the best snorkeling in SoCal is just a short boat ride away! The City of Avalon Dive Park and Descanso Beach are better for beginners as it is much easier to enter and exit the water there. The water clarity at Lover's Cove is amazing and there are huge schools of fish. I also saw three stingrays and... More

I have snorkeled in San Diego (awful), Maui (beautiful), and now Catalina. By far, the overall experience was the most amazing in Catalina. I think we were there at a perfect time. It was nice and hot with lots of sunshine. When we were getting off the express boat we overheard people saying that Lover's Cove was the best for... More
