With not many loop hikes that are family friendly in the Aspen Area, this little hike is pretty neat. The lake and vistas are nice, you get to hike through forest and valley. As a bonus, you can hit the grottos which is near by and/or go see the independence ghost town as well.

We did the upper trail. Two water crossings across a log. Weather can change quickly bring something warm and be prepared for rain. Beautiful terrain.

One of the more fun hikes that will take you past the reservoir and up the mountains. If you do the entire hike then it can be a bit challenging but highly suggest you do this if you are in the Aspen area.

Upper Lost Man is one of my favorite hiking trails in Aspen - the hike itself is above the tree-line along a small creek, and the vegetation around you with dozens of different wildflowers is breathtaking! Try and make it up to the "saddle" (about a 90 min hike), you will not be disappointed!!

This hike really called lost man loop as one can start lower down on highway 82/Independence pass, or higher up, and go in a loop coming out at the opposite point, which is why it's a good idea to leave a car at the opposite point so you don't have to walk to your car, you're already there. This is... More

We did the beginning of lost man trail and hiked to the top. Even though it may seem easy -to a novice it was a good hike. Took in a picnic and ate at the top!!! The views of the valleys and far off mountains are amazing to behold and it will always take my breathe away of the beauty... More

We started the at the top end and unfortunately only did half due to some pretty severe thunderstorms, which were a bit scary on the exposed ridge lines. But absolutely amazing landscapes, a bit like Switzerland in places. Beautiful lakes. Obviously better to go early in the day. High altitude ascending to 12000 ft. Good trails. Lots of marmots. It's... More

We did an out-n-back hike from the upper trailhead - to the pass overlooking Lost Man Lake (which takes you past Independence Lake). The trail is easy to follow. It isn't crazy steep, but you're at elevation so it takes some effort (starts at around 11,500'). The views of both lakes are stunning. You get those "calendar quality" views of... More

You can gain altitude slowly, or start at the top and work your way down. The valley trail meanders through easy terrain which is classic alpine hiking. When you start at the high trail, it climbs quickly crossing streams, and snow. Stay on the trail and pay attention to the weather. Once you get over the pass and descend to... More

Not as scenic as some, but a nice hike to escape the crowds and enjoy nature. Lots of small streams flow through the hillside. It's 8.8 miles from end to end, which will leave you about 3 miles from your car at either end. There seems to be an informal shuttle system of hikers sharing rides back and forth to... More
