Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

So much to see, it was like snorkeling in an aquarium. Our Searious guide pointed out so many lobsters, moray eels and identified schools of snapper and other fish. Parrot fish and angel fish were beautiful.

Gabriel (Gabby) at Suya Tours was our snorkeling guide last week to Mexico Rocks. He was very helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. I would highly recommend requesting him to be your boat driver and snorkeling guide when snorkeling anywhere in Ambergris Caye.

While shark alley was pretty unbelievable, my husband and I, as well as other members on our tour, much preferred the serenity of snorkeling Mexico Rocks over navigating the Hol Chan hordes. The latter seriously felt like fighting traffic - - it was difficult at times to locate our guide. Mexico Rocks had smaller reef pockets absolutely teaming with marine life. Perhaps I shouldn't be posting this review lest it spoil their homes. We went with Ramon's at 2pm on a Friday and had the entire place ourselves.

Our last snorkel for the week didn't disappoint. Very nice shallow water, LOTS of marine life and coral. The currant/waves were a bit strong for our youngsters in the group so we sadly had to cut the snorkel short. Our guide was short handed so we didn't have anyone to help us get the little one back to the boat, which was a bit disappointing. Would go back for sure.

After doing Shark and Ray Alley and Hol Chan Reserve in the morning we figured we'd really tire ourselves out in the afternoon at Mexico Rocks. Our guide Juliouz from Ambergris Divers was outstanding. This ended up being our favorite snorkel of the day. No boat traffic at all. It was basically the four of us from our boat, two guides, Barry the Barracuda, and thousands of amazing fish. We did do different snorkels on this trip. One is called the Aquarium and with good reason. We saw the most massive lobster and super amazing green eel. Words can't explain the beauty. Shark and Ray Alley was cool, Hol Chan was super busy, and Mexico Rocks was the place that didn't seem as popular but was so much better than the others.

Snorkelling in the midst of schools of colourful tropical fish was a highlight. The water seemed around 3 metres (10 ft) deep and the reef is in decent condition. Tons of different fish (both big and small), sea turtles, stingrays, lobster and conch. There were only two other boats - nothing ruins a good snorkel quicker than being in a huge crowd so this was really enjoyable and we all had plenty of space.

We saw everything here that we saw at Hol Chan, but with wayyyyyyyy less people! So much better, I felt like I was truly exploring. Because it’s less popular, I felt there was much more marine life. We went with Searious adventures and they let us snorkel around on our own for a solid chunk of the tour. I really enjoyed this experience. Probably the most relaxing and magical place to snorkel.

Mexico Rocks is a short trip north along the reef for San Pedro. We have been going to Belize for 20 years and always check out the Rocks each yer. The sights are fantastic especially for the relative short run to such a great spot. Of course, it all depends WHO you book with that make the difference between a good day, and great day. I suggest reaching out to Fly With Me fly fishing for suggestions on the best snorkel guides. Enjoy!

Took a day tour to mexico rocks. We had heard about all the various snorkel tours and did Hol Chan and Sharks Ray Alley which were cool but loved this one. Least crowded too.

It surprised me (an experienced snorkeler who has been to Hol Chan and Mexico Rocks several times) how much better an experience I had at Mexico Rocks. It wasn't crowded, which made for a safer, less competitive environment. At Hol Chan, I could count on getting kicked by surrounding groups.
Mexico Rocks is large, allowing for an hour or more of continuous snorkeling. I saw large Barracuda, several spotted moray eels, lobsters and schools of fish galore. The individual fish were not as large as the ones at Hol Chan (wow, the Cubera snapper were massive over there), but the variety and the health of the reef made up for it. The coral was remarkable.
Overall, I chose to visit Mexico Rocks a 2nd time on this trip rather than Hol Chan because of its beauty and less crowded environment. Keep in mind, a guide is required in both places. Make sure to find a small group (no more than 6-8 snorkelers) for the best experience.

How far is Mexico Rocks from where Carnival cruise ship docks for the day? Is it possible to get to Mexico Rocks for an excurison? If so, what tour company do you recommend?
Written 19 June 2019
I think it may be too far, as Mexico Rocks is about a 2 hour boat ride from where the cruise ships dock. If you really wanted to snorkel there, the best bet would be to take a short flight from the main land to San Pedro Island, where it only takes about 20-30 minutes by boat.

Who or what company was your tour with? We are going in February. Thanks!

What is the most affordable company to do the basic Mexico Rocks/Tres Cocos tour?
Written 30 August 2017
Sorry for the late reply... I would go with Belize Pro Divers. Especially if there aren't others go out when you are since they'll provide a guide even if there are just one or two of you. Their guides are awesome!

We are planning a family vacation to Belize and staying in Ambergris Caye. I have read many reviews that snorkeling at Mexico Rock is a better option than Hol Chan. Does anyone recommend a tour company to book excursions with?
Written 19 June 2017
