Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Make time during your Roatan visit to experience the Flamingo Cultural Center in Punta Gorda. My sister lives on the island and raved about the experience. I agree! Garifuna is a rich and living culture with a deep and sometimes difficult history. The presentation and energy given to educating about Garifuna is infectious. Contact them in advance about when there are dancers and drummers at the center. Thanks Audrey and Nora for a great day!

5 *, if you come to Roatan for a visit or live here, this very special history and culture dissertation and display is not to be missed. The Garufina people are from an ancient ancestry and listening to the stories, watching their dance which is a display of their connection to past loved ones and ancestry. It is amazing. You must go to the Flamingo Cultural Center to actually see and feel the connection! Then have an island meal at Wagundan restaurant just down the street!!!! Absolutely worth the day trip to Punta Gorda! Amazing folks and delicious meal!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!

Our organised tour brought us to here to experience local culture and to enjoy an authentic dance display. Lovely people who enjoy simple lives. Excellent show and great commentary in a traditional dwelling

Audrey, her family, and all her team did a great and accurate job in promoting Garifuna culture, a result of a mix between pre-Colombian indians and Africans.
This is a great initiative to preserve this strong and particular people and teach about the real Central American history.
Flamingo Cultural Center is excellent for tourists who want to enrich their experience in the island.

My husband and I visited the Center yesterday. Audrey and Nora are such friendly hostesses and loved sharing their culture and their personal stories with us.

This Center has so much potential! I sincerely wish them success.

Ladies, kudos for a job well done!

Delightful place

We were driving around the island and had heard to stop in to Punta Gorda for history about the Garifuna people.

The Flamingo Cultural Center was a great stop!

Audrey took time to talk with us and answer our questions and show us a video too.

Take the time to pop in!

I just didn't want to drive through Punta Gorda and the East End; I wanted to learn about the history of the Garifuna people in Central America. Audrey provides that enhanced experience for tourists who wish to have a more in-depth understanding of the Garifuna people and their part in the history of Roatan and Honduras. She took me on a tour of Punta Gorda and then to the Cultural Center that she and her family are in the process of developing. There are interesting exhibits already there with many more to follow. Audrey and Michael then served me a fresh cooked fish brunch out on the open air deck (parrot fish, plantains and rice). It was scrumptious. I highly recommend that you check out this fun and informative tour. Oh and did I mention I had broke my foot prior to this tour? No problem! Audrey and Michael helped me around in a wheelchair that they provided! They are extremely accommodating, kind and fun! (Photos to follow)

I happen to be visiting Roatan Honduras on April 12, and was happy to read this date is celebrated by the local Garifuna as the date they first traveled/settlled (maybe shipwrecked) in Central America. This tribe of people have an interesting history, and I have encountered the Garifuna in Guatemala, Belize, and even in the USA.
I visited the festival in Punta Gorda and was treated to some great music, dancing, local cuisine called machuca (fish stew with cassava root mosh). The people were very friendly and proudly showing off their fine costumes and culture. The only down side was the lack of outsiders (tourist). Besides myself, I may have counted a dozen visitors.
While Roatan is interesting and beautiful and has great diving, many visitors miss out on the local culture. More fun for me. I recommend visiting next April 12 if you have a chance.

Audrey is doing great things to preserve and grow awareness of the Garifuna culture in Central America... we talked for nearly an hour as she shared the histrory of the people and mission of the culture.

We didn't call ahead so we missed out on the local showcase and tasting that they typically do for those who make reservations. But we still enjoyed the time shared while just sitting on the palapa.

Be sure to support their mission!!

We stopped by the Flamingo Cultural Center during our stay in Roatan, Honduras this March. We were welcomed warmly by both the director, Audrey, and the dancers. After a brief, but very informative, history lesson, the dancing portion of the show started, exhibiting different dances for different life situations. After the show, the drummers took the time to show our kids how to drum. A great experience for all ages!
