another building and site within the Copan Ruinas is the big amphitheatre. climb to the top of the temple building and admire the amazing stone carving there.

The amphitheatre is a part of the Copan ruins site. It is an impressive place to take in the history of the Mayans.

Copan have been excavated a lot since my last visit. it is still a beautiful place. unfortunately there are no more animals around any moreonly birds...

We had a guide to fully appreciate the wonder of these ruins. Paths were well-maintained and the quality of work done here so long ago; amazing!

I agree with some archaeologists that this structure may have functioned as an amphitheater. The theatrical masks & dancing jaguars (almost like cartoon characters) seem to support this. One can envision Mayan families sitting on these steps watching theater & comedy. Perhaps the Mayans are...More

Stand there, surrounded by a magnificent city, a complex with wonderful buildings of breathtaking beauty and amazing feats of engineering, and you are in the center of the Mayan world. There are no words to describe the experience, one must live it.
