We stayed at the Mauna Kea resort and I see why this beach is so popular. It is beautiful with soft sand, no shells or rocks, fairly protected and quite a bit larger than other beaches we visited. Great swimming, even when the waves got big, just be careful!

We walked to Mauna Kea beach from where we are staying at Hapuna. Apparently our parking pass would have allowed us entry to their lot, but not until January - I guess they restrict it during the Christmas holidays. It was a 10 minute walk from Hapuna along a golf cart path. The sand is like fine white talcum powder,... More

Great beach with lots of sand next to the resort. Not much shade. But a beautiful white sandy beach with easy ocean access.

We were lucky enough to get one of the parking spaces and spent the day here. Great swimming beach. Life guard in duty. White sand beach. We watched the sunset on the trail between here and Hapuna Beach.

This is a gorgeous beach that is unfortunately dominated by the hotel and they only allow 30 non hotel, cars to'park there at any given time. Still, go,early and you get a spot. Nice swimming but since many of the guests at the hotel aren't boogie boarders, and you are, you might have the waves to yourself on a nice surf... More

This beach is secluded and magical. Love that the mantas hang here along with the kitties :) so many beautiful spots to hang out and each section is slightly different. The waves crashing against the shore or rocks is hypnotizing.

My husband wants me to write a bad review for this beach so it would not become overcrowded. But there is no worries because they only give 35 passed per day for non- hotel guest. It was about a 10 minute drive for us and the first time we went we didn't get a pass and had to turn around... More

We went to Mauna Kea today. I was a little worried that we wouldn't get a parking spot (Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, got there at noon) based on previous reviews. But it wasn't a problem at all! Once we drove past the gate at Mauna Kea, the attendant gave us instructions to follow the road to the end. There were... More

You're on private property and they limit the number of cars coming in to visit the beach. Get there early. The sand is pale and fairly fine. The water is azure and turquoise. The feeling you get is sublime. Don't miss this beach if beaches are your thing.

We came here on a weekday in September, around 8AM, and had no difficulty getting one of the 35 parking spaces. It was really easy; just pull up to the booth and tell them you want to go to the beach. They explain how to get there. We spent most of the day here. Tried snorkeling, thought visibility wasn't great... More
