One of the most gorgeous hikes I have ever done. Beautiful scenery, well maintained hiking path. Hike is little challenging up hill, but it is worth every step. We did 4 miles, 8 miles round trip.

Trail was extremely muddy in December. Lots of mud, slippery clay style. Lots of up and downs and rocks. Takes longer than you think by the distance. One stream crossing to get to the beach. Trekking poles are helpful. Only hiked to the beach.

We did the 4 mile hike to the waterfalls. The views of the coast on the first 2 miles to the beach are amazing. I was grateful to have my hiking poles for the first 2 miles but many also do fine without. The last 2 miles to the waterfall include many river/creek crossings and changed into water shoes but... The Kalalau trail is long, and a bit of a test of endurance, so make sure you are mentally and physically prepared. The sites of along the trail are some of the best there are, but the best part of this trail is the beach. So secluded, you might feel like you've got the world to yourself.

Bucket list material! Get your permits early...6 months early. First 2 miles is tourist central, then it clears. It is everything it says it is...difficult, hot, muddy, long, STEEP, cliff side and beautiful. It closes due to flash floods, doesn't stay closed for long but the risks are very real. There was downpour the day before our trip, trail closed,... More

We completed the entire trail (22 mile round trip). Not for the faint of heart, but certainly attainable for anyone with backpacking experience. Expect continual up and down with numerous switchbacks. The "crawler's ledge" is really not as narrow as most say, but treat it with respect and only traverse with dry (or minimally damp, not pouring rain wet) and... More

We only made it to the beach but was a fun hike for the distance we went, be sure to take this on with something other then flip flops there's alot of rock and mud in some sections. My biggest complaint of the whole hike is hiring the tour helicopters flying over your head every 5 minutes for me it... More

We did a 2 + 2 miles round trip, one needs to be in good shape to complete the trail, t took us a total of 4 hours walk plus 1 hour to relax after finishing one way. There were change of atmosphere/temperature as you walk thru the trail, which was nice. The trail is immensely satisfying once you finish... More

I took my 9 year old 2 miles in and then back. The views were spectacular but there were too many people. The hike follows cliffs so maybe not good for the little little ones but I thought 9 was an appropriate age and he had no problems.
