Mounds State Park, located off I-69 east of Anderson, features 10 unique earthworks built by prehistoric Indians known as the Adena-Hopewell people. The largest earthwork, the Great Mound, is believed to have been constructed around 160 B.C. Archaeological surveys indicate the mounds were used as gathering places for religious ceremonies, from where astronomical alignments could be viewed. Be sure to visit our Nature Center, which includes a wildlife viewing room, animal displays, interactive games and more. Hours are 9 am to 4 pm daily. Naturalist-led hikes and interpretive programs are offered every weekend throughout the year.

This is a great park with nice trails. My only complaint is there are so many offshoots from the trails, it's difficult to stay on 1 particular trail at times. But you can't really keep people from going off trail.

I love Mounds State Park. It has a very nice trail system and the lower trails run along the White River. Most of the park is within the woods and is visually inspiring.

It's nice that there is some history here but it's really not the best if you are looking for a longer hike

We go there often to walk the trails. Always pretty private and serene. The paths are alway clear and clean and some of the views are fantastic. You can walk along the river or into deep woods. There are also camp grounds and picnic areas.

Mounds is a great place to visit with your kids for a day of hiking, exploring, having a picnic and swimming. There is alot to learn from nature at Mounds State Park. Camping is also available and has very nice sites.

We came here for a weekend in august to camp and to swim. We were so disappointed that the pool closed for the summer on august 1st. Not even open on the weekend. Gate attendant was rude and could not answer any of our questions.

I used an annual pass, but if you don't have that it's $7 per vehicle for in-state and $9 for out of state. That's a one time fee if you are camping....example, if you're camping three nights, you just pay the gate fee once... More

Yes you pay admission and it is marked to expire. And the park closes overnight so probably won't be able to leave your car.
