Leather tanning is the major industry in the city. It’s definitely worth a walk through this neighborhood.

Google "Marrakech tanneries scam" before you wander around the city. In certain quarters of the medina, you will be hounded by people trying to steer you to the tanneries, often saying that "today is the last day of a Berber festival," etc. 100% scam.

I agree with the above posts. The tanneries whilst interesting and rather smelly are not worth the hassle you will get in trying to find them and more importantly the sales tactics which are the most aggressive in Marrakech.
