This was my second holiday arranged by Mustapha, which included a few nights at the Riad Jnane Imlil before and after a private guided trek of a week. It did not disappoint. Mustapha is an excellent host, providing a warm welcome at the beautiful, clean and comfortable Riad. All the staff are friendly and excellent good value meals are home cooked using locally sourced, fresh ingredients by chef Omar. Our trek this year was for seven days in 'undiscovered Morocco', travelling through Berber villages, seeing local life, meeting very friendly local people and not seeing any other trekkers. Our Guide Omar was very patient, (I am over 60 and very slow), caring, knowledgeable, humorous and the ultimate professional. He was ably assisted by mule handler and camp cook Samr, who managed to cook delicious 3 course meals in the middle of nowhere. I have no hesitation in highly recommending this company, five star from start to finish.

I would highly recommend booking your trip with Atlas and Sahara Tours for an authentic Moroccan experience. From our initial enquiries, to the end of our trip Mustapha was extremely helpful and always responded to enquiries quickly. He set up a WhatsApp group so we could keep in contact during our trip. The trip was good value.

We travelled with our daughters aged 13 and 15 in Feb half term. The Easter holiday would be a better time to visit for the weather. We stayed in Marrakesh for two days before travelling through the Atlas Mountains. We visited Ait Ben Haddou, stayed at Riad Babylon Dades, with a stunning view from our balcony, went on camel rides and stayed in the dessert camp overnight & then onto hiking in the Altas Mountains. Due to snow preventing our planned hike, we decided to return to Marrakesh for our last day. We requested the change to our itinerary at 09:30 and by 11:00 Mustapha had arranged a car to collect us and booked us into a riad in Marrakesh.

Our drivers and your guides were all lovely, helpful and friendly. I would recommend making sure you’re aware of the duration of car journeys in advance of your trip, as we’re were shocked how long we spent travelling one day. The breakfasts and tagines are tasty, but there is little variety outside of Marrakesh.

Thank you for a wonderful introduction to Morocco

Our 8-day tour with Atlas and Sahara Tours was an exceptional encounter with Morocco’s beauty, culture, and hospitality. Under Mustapha’s attentive care, we embarked on a journey that was well planned and executed.

Our guide, Omar, was a delight and never tired of answering all our questions. Rachid, our driver, navigated every road with ease and grace, ensuring our travels were smooth and secure.

Riding camels in the Sahara and spending a night glamping under the stars was a highlight of the trip. The stillness of the desert evening was an experience we'll cherish for a long time. Mountain biking and the tranquility of hiking through Imlil’s landscapes were equally enjoyable.

The warmth of the Moroccan people stood out, making us feel welcome and safe at all times. Our journey with Atlas and Sahara Tours was more than just a trip; it was a deep dive into a vibrant culture, filled with moments of awe and friendship.

Add to that all the beautiful riads we stayed in and all the delicious food we ate, and you have the perfect recipe for a wonderful time.

We are already looking forward to our next adventure with this fantastic tour company. Until then, we carry a piece of Morocco in our hearts. Shukran for an incredible experience!

My girlfriend and I just returned from a private 3 day hiking trek in the Atlas mountains. We both loved our time in the mountains and thought everyone involved in making our stay wonderful was excellent at their jobs. Mustapha coordinated our trip and was always so helpful and kind. The Riad we stayed in in Imlil was beautiful and the food we ate every day (vegetarian) was delicious. We both highly recommended this company. Very well run with amazing Moroccan hospitality!

My wife and I completed a custom four day Toubkal Trek in October 2019. We casually hiked through various villages staying at huts and were well cared for by Omar, our guide who had a great sense of humour. Our muleteer, Sayid was a fantastic chef and we ate like royalty. The hike was wonderful and the summit not too difficult for experienced hikers. Mustapha, the manager was friendly, accommodating and very efficient with communication and transportation logistics. We highly recommend High Atlas and Sahara Tours!

I travelled with 2 girl friends on a private tour of Fez, the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara desert. Even though some parts of the tour were great, like the driver and tour around Fez.
The Sahara desert tour felt quite unsafe to us. They sent the most junior of employees to take care of us. Some looked like they were 15-16 years old. The luxury tents were far from the description. Unventilated and very hot, the beds were hard and uncomfortable. We were promised a music show but it was done with a show string budget. They asked the same under age guides to play the drums for us which was sadly not a good performance. We could hear other tours had actually good drum players and singers. So overall I would suggest skip doing desert trips with them.

10/10 this tour was fantastic and the service was great. We got collected and returned from our accommodation in Marrakech. The drive to the mountains was beautiful and we stopped at a market along the way. The tour was led by a lovely and very knowledgeable guide. The food provided was exceptional. I received a recommendation from a friend for this tour and I have also recommended to others. I hope to return in the future!

Left Imlil at around 6am. We were told it would take 4 hours to reach the refuge. It took us 6 hours. We are not mountain climbers nor are we out of shape. We live in Toronto which is at sea level so I think the altitude slowed us down. We kept a slow pace, and enjoyed the scenery.

The refuge was simple. You need your own sleeping bags. They are dorm type rooms with bunk beds side by side or you can bring a tent and camp. The refuge had water, pop, snacks and food for sale. We had the group dinner which was soup, spaghetti, water, mint tea for 50duram each. Straight to bed after dinner.

We woke at 5am and started out by 5;30am. Its best to start early so you aren't walking up in the sun. We reached the summit at around 9am. The descent was very difficult as it was loose rock which causes you to slide down hill. I was honestly wishing I had hiking poles with me. Made it back to the refuge by 1pm. Had a 30min rest then headed back down to Imlil. We arrived in Imlil shortly after 5pm.

We didn't get a guide and found the trail very obvious. When it wasn't we simply had a rest and let another group pass us, then we followed them. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and lots of water. We carried up the minimum for clothes, decided to be dirty and just hike in the same thing for two days. There were people who brought up all of their bags by donkey/horse. If you plan to stay up for a few days and do many hikes (there are more than just Toubkal) then bring all your stuff. Otherwise leave it in Imlil and be dirty. Give the animals a break.

We've just returned from Morocco where we spent four days with Atlas and Sahara tours. I hate to pour cold water on all the excellent reviews, but our experience wasn't entirely perfect.

We booked Atlas and Sahara to take us from Marrakech to Zagora for an overnight camel trek to a Berber camp, then to Imlil in the Atlas mountains for a two day trek up Mt. Toubkal with an overnight at the Toubkal refuge.

The good: Pre-trip communication with Mohammed was excellent. Accommodations in Imlil at Dar Amalou guesthouse were great and our mountain guide (also named Mohammed) was superb. The experience of hiking in the Atlas was great, even though we did not summit Toubkal because of bad weather. Seeing so much of Morocco's diverse landscape was wonderful.

The bad:
(1) Our driver from Marrakech to Zagora and on to Imlil did not keep his end of the contract. We did not stop at the film studio on Ouazzarete nor at the village of Ait Benhaddou on the way to Zagora because we "didn't have enough time." We picked up plants in one town and delivered them in another. We stopped at his sister's house for tea and made several other unscheduled and unexplained stops at ATMs, coffee shops, gas stations and government offices. On the way back form Zagora to Imlil we insisted on stopping at the film studio and at Ait Benhaddou but the promised 1 hour tour of the village did not materialize. The driver did not speak English. Finally, water and drinks which were part of the contract were not included and we were told to pay for them ourselves.
(2) Despite repeated queries about the likelihood of summiting Toubkal in early April, we were assured that it was a "great time to climb the mountain." Maybe we were unusually unlucky with the weather, but we had six inches of fresh snow, the temps dipped to -13F with the windchill and the winds blew 40 mph. We have hiked all over the world and understand mountain weather conditions. It just would have been great to have a little more honesty up front.
(3) When we discussed our grievances with Mohammed at the end of the trip, he blamed the driving company. He explained that drivers never speak English as they do not have the same level of education as tour guides. He also argued that drinks are never considered part of a meal. There were no apologies.

What the traveller should know:
(1) An English speaking driver does not mean a driver who speaks English. Ignore that promise in the contract. Take your best schoolboy French.
(2) Meals apparently do not include drinks, even juice and water.
(3) The packing list for Toubkal is a joke. Luckily we knew this. Do not attempt to summit in early spring unless you have plastic boots, gaiters, winter mountaineering parkas, and experience with crampons and ice axes.
(4) Do not expect the overnight with the Berbers to be a cultural experience. The Berbers do not speak English, there was no opportunity to learn about their lives in the desert, with camels, the role of women, anything. To be fair, none of this was promised in the contract, but it is an opportunity missed. It is a 1 hour camel ride, mint tea, tangine dinner, overnight in a tent, camel ride out. No more and no less.

Hope this helps.
