Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Avoid this store. We were encouraged by our guide to shop here. We were totally bamboozled and ripped off. Our guide told us that the quality and prices at this store were fair and excellent. The salesperson insisted on selling us more than we wanted and pushed items that we didn’t want. Though he claimed the prices were listed, we ended off paying too much and not receiving what we had wanted. Total scam!

I read these reviews and wanted to add my experience in October 2022. The owner greets you warmly and shows you around the store. At first you feel very welcome, but he’s very careful to give you way more spices than you ask for, while distracting you samples of the tea, the eucalyptus crystals, etc. Basically, his operation is a total scam when it comes to totaling your bill. He stands in front of you so that you can’t see the weight on the scale and tells the lady behind the counter with a calculator how much to charge in Arabic. It ends up being thousands of dirhams more than you intended to spend, wildly exaggerating the actual cost of the spices. The tour guide, Mohammed, is sadly in on the scam, and no doubt is rewarded by the owner. DON’T GO THERE.

My friends and i were brought to this spice store by our tour guide. We didn't intend to buy spices but ended up with lots of spices. The shopkeeper will entice you with free drinks, telling you not to question him when packing the spices and you will end up being cheated on the amount of spices they packed... more than you asked for thinking that he is kind enough to give you extra for free as gift. In the end you will pay thousands of dirhams more only to realise this after you have paid and left the store. My advice is DON'T rush and verify the amount before you accept. My wife and her friends thought they bought 20g of eycalyptus crystals... but ended up with 200g costing 1000 dirhams! Initially we considered to confront the shop owner but decided against it as we didn't want to complicate the matter. Just avoid this shop or any spice shop around Mellah area. I believe that the tour guide is aware about the scam, since there have been many bad reviews about this shop

Beware of what you are asking for and how much you actually want.
I told them I wanted 35 spice and the sales guy took an entire scoop of raw items and ground them then took another entire scoop to the grinder before I realized what was happening. By then, I figured I had to buy what was freshly ground. Then he insisted I take some saffron and I ended up with $120 dollar bill. I did want some spices, but not that many. Luckily it's just before Xmas and I have some gifting to do.
They were very friendly and my husband enjoyed some mint tea while I shopped.

Went in to buy some essential oils and eventually bought some herbs. He included eucalyptus that we had no intention of buying and gave the impression that it was just included. When we checked our bill, what should have been €18 was €38. We went back to the shop and he showed us the price of the eucalyptus. We had never asked for this. A complete scam artist. Gives morocco a bad name. Stay away from this shop!!!!!!

SCAM!! DON'T waste your time here! The audacity to scam us during the holy month of Ramadan! The worst people and service, super upcharge at the end. They may live well with scamming people now, but I hope for the worst for them!! They don't even deserve a 1 star. JUST DON'T!!!

If you're reading this, it's probably too late and you've already been ripped off. You can try to file a dispute with your credit card company, but he will provide the signature receipt and that will be that. Your next move should be to file a complaint with Visa/Mastercard. They will open an investigation. Your best hope is that enough people complain about him that the merchant accounts drop him as a client. And/or he evolves his business practices to remove all deception and he's honest and transparent with his product. Your next move should be to complain to the ministry of tourism at cons.morocco at gmail dot com.
It's infuriating enough to never want to return to Morocco. If possible, consider Tunisia instead.

1) It's intoxicating and dizzying and he takes full advantage of that. Shoving soaps and tea and spices in your face with stories and demoing "real" saffron.

2) Everything is priced in dirham per gram. At some point, after you object to the ungodly high price, he will say something about it being priced in euros which directly contradicts the posted prices. You will not be given an opportunity to see the breakdown of how much you're being charged per item. He verbally tells someone with a calculator how much to charge you, rounding up. Unless you speak Arabic, you won't know what he's telling that person. after I weighed everything I brought home and estimated the cost according to a photo posted here on Trip Advisor, I was mysteriously charged $160 more than the items I purchased.

3) Some spices are ground and some are whole. If it's whole, he'll grind it up and if you decide you don't want it, he'll tell you you HAVE to buy it. Also, don't buy the whole cardamom. He will grind it up, leaving you with unusable chards of cardamom pod mixed in with the seed powder. You'll be charged for it all, although you'll only be able to use a third of it.

4) He may push the ras el hanout and will say he makes a special mix "just for you" where he throws in cheaper spices and charges you for the more expensive ras el hanout weight. Essentially weighing down an already expensive mix. Also, it is displayed in whole spice form, so it's hard to gauge the weight with the large volume. I asked for 100 grams. He ground 1087 grams and forced me to buy all of it.

5) you may try to dispute the charge (or partial charge) with the credit card company, but since he doesn't give you a receipt, he wins.

Way too overpriced spices, forced to pay more than double the amount that youd pay in the markets and then will force you to pay even more. We bought for 200 dirhams of spices, which will cost 100 in the souks. They charged us 450 dirhams, and forced us to pay. We felt really attacked in this store and would love to see this closed or burned down. DO NOT GO HERE! Never had such a bad experience in my life, I sincerly hope this store gets closed soon.
