    Underrated museum
The museum has lots of wonderful Roman mosaics that are just as good as those in the Bardo. Outside is an old Roman house from 180 AD that is well preserved. Please don’t visit El Jem and only go to the amphitheatre and miss this museum out.

Packed with information and well worth the visit!
Make sure you also visit the museum with your 12DT ticket included with the Amphitheater. This museum is packed with history and you can walk around the original buildings laid with stunning mosaics as well as read/see and learn about their history! It's absolutely fascinating and makes for a lovely day out - El Jem town, El Jem Amphitheatre and El Jem Museum.

    Unexpected highlight
Included in your entree ticket for the amphitheater, make sure you don't miss this small, but exquisite museum. It is built on top of an archeological site with some stunning Roman villas. The incredible mosaics they found here now adorn all floors and walls - and they are truly stunning ! Outside at the rear of the museum you will visit "The House of Africa", a Roman villa with two mosaics depicting both the Goddess Africa and the province. An absolute gem of a museum.

    Stunning mosaics
With the same ticket of the coliseum one can visit this amazing museum of mosaics. Impressive what the artists were able to represent with “just” some stones of slightly different shades. You’ll see elaborate images and structures that survived many years.

Like others have said, an incredible place to visit after the coliseum. Only about a 10-minute walk to it AND entrance is included in the same ticket. A total win for one of the best mosaic museums I have EVER been to…and I’ve been to a lot! No tourists except me most of the time which I liked as well. The semirestored House of Africa in the rear is picturesque and holds more lovely mosaics. Took tons of photos. All mosaics on the wall have placards right Arabic, English and French translations and the history of El Jem and its Roman predecessor is described on placards at the entrance. There’s also some interesting death masks and sculptures, as well as ceramics.

My only concern in the museum was walking on many of the mosaics in each room… I assume these are not original?! Why else would we be allowed to tramp all over them?!

Lovely museum kitty that follows you if you feed it. :)

This is not to be missed if you want to know more about the history of Tunisia. The Amphitheatre is one of the most intact and you are free to explore it. It's not overly curated so your imagination can really get into it. Lots of stairs if you want to get to the top, which was worth it. We went mid day which was hot but less busy.

You use the same ticket as for the amphitheatre so keep hold!

This is a well kept museum with mosques on both the walls and floor, we were surprised you could even touch them. There is also artifacts that have been dug up over the years, statues (with and without heads!) And then outside the Villa area the remains of the structures that were in the grounds. Doesn't take long to go round, maybe 30-40mins or so and it was lovely and cool inside.

Suitable for wheelchairs and those with impaired mobility as ramps as well as stairs to take you round.

Very beautiful museum which exhibits superb mosaics. To do, especially since the closure of Bardo. Then, the remains and the reconstruction of the Villa d’Africa are an interesting continuation after the museum rooms. In short, a superb visit in addition to the amphitheater.

Amazing spot for adventurer wanting more than the sun. Amazing part of history part restored for realism. You can go anywhere unlike Rome. Dive into the underground of a coliseum see where the gladiators and slaves went before there victory or the end. The usual hustle outside but once inside its like an oasis from it all. Absolutely worth the trip

I can never get bored of visiting this wonderful place. It’s easy to get to by public transport from Sousse. It’s open every day and it’s cheap. The ticket even includes a second museum up the road which is well worth a visit.
