A good bookstore in the Medina
Dec 2016 • Solo
I regularly visit this book store (usually once a month.) There is a variety of books on a variety of topics, but all of them would fall under the broad category of "local interest." From history, literature through art and archaeology, there is something for a every taste.

Now don't expect to spend a lot of time here. In fact, it will take you 30 minutes to see it all. Much less if you have more specific interests. You still have to visit the place during your wanderings in the Medina (that is if you're into books.) While you'd find most of the titles here in the Librairie al-kitab on Bourguiba avenue, you'd still find some rare gems here. Most importantly, you'll find a much more human and organic touch here, as the shopkeeper is not just interested in your money.

A shop for lovers of the Islamic arts
rue Sidi ben Arous goes off to the right as you climb into the medina. This small shop has a helpful proprietor, and sells books and postcards of Tunisian decorative arts among other areas of interest. From here I was carefully directed to the Zaouia of Sidi Kassem Jelizi - the beautiful home of a selection of antique tiles and of a thriving ceramic college.
