Contemporary Art - a real gem
If you want to see contemporary sculpture of Zimbabwe as well as museum pieces of established artists of the former generation, you can't do any better than to visit this beautiful place. The large works are exposed in the garden, the smaller works housed inside. When we visited, the director Emma was present and happy to meet us and to explain. Don't miss it when in Harare!
Glad to hear you enjoyed your visit, and a pleasure to meet you.

    Worth a Visit 4 Sure!
Harare as a city doesnt have a whole lot to offer visitors unless they are after the simple thrill of negotiating the pothole dotted streets and hectic intersections where traffic lights dont work and he, or she, who is the boldest and bravest gets thru unscathed. An exception to this however is the Shona Sculpture Gallery where you get to see a significant number of beautiful stone carvings by some very notable and/or up-and-coming artists. The setting is tranquil and the artists in residence are lovely to chat with, be it about their works, the state of the roads, the failings of government or the price of milk. Go and enjoy!
Sounds like you had a nice chat with our gallery manager while visiting Shona Sculpture Gallery! Thanks for taking the time to give us a great review, and hopefully more visitors to Harare will come and enjoy our lovely sculpture garden.

    Wonderful Oasis of Art
A local friend brought me to the Garden; we both loved it! The grounds are lush and well-tended; the works are thoughtfully placed in the verdant setting against complementary backdrops. It was such a pleasure to stroll through the grounds, taking note of the variety of textures, materials, and styles that the sculptors utilized in their works. I'd say that this is a must-see in Harare for folks who enjoy art.
Delighted you enjoyed your visit to Shona Sculpture Gallery and thanks so much for taking the time to write a lovely review.

Hospitable hosts Tom and Emma plus their knowledgeable guides have done an amazing job of presenting high-quality Shona stone sculptures, old as well as modern styles, in a wonderfully manicured garden and patio. If you go for quality rather than quantity, this is the place for you.

A lovely, peaceful experience. The guide David was very welcoming and let us wander around at our own pace, exploring the garden and beautiful sculptures. They are for sale but there was no pressure to buy, although most are very large so some smaller ones would have been easier for tourists to transport. The quality is very high, the sculptures are true works of art. The setting is a beautiful garden full of flowers and plants. Definitely worth a visit.

Thanks for taking the time to write us a glowing review, much appreciated. Glad to hear you enjoyed the gardens so much. Smaller sculptures are displayed in the verandah, with more to see inside, and prices start at $30! Hope to see you again in the future...

We just spent a very pleasant hour or so in the peaceful, beautifully tended gardens which house a wonderful mixture of old and new Shona sculpture. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and allowed to walk round at our own pace, touching and stroking some breathtaking works of art. We were regaled with stories and our questions readily answered.

Before flying back to Malawi I spent 2,5 hours in Shona Sculpture Gallery / Garden. I am impressed to learn about the creativity of Zimbabwiens of several generations! It is lovely presented with a lot of information. We had a very nice conversation and I appreciate the approach of the gallery, especially to support young artists in a close personal relationship.
