The hike up is strenuous unless you are used to hiking. There are about two summits before you reach the last one. The best views are at the final summit. You’ll need to carry water and food. The bbq stands are at the beginning of the trail.

Take a guided tour
Jan 2021
Anyone who wishes to visit here should do with a guide as a part of guided tour. The cost associated with it is worth it.

Hiking was awesome

Great work from Hikers Zw for arranging this. A well-placed hike which resulted in a good day of exercise. Wear shoes with grip. There are some steep inclines. And say hi to the kid with the cows...

Conquering Ngomakurira
Feb 2020
Had an exciting hike up Ngomakurira with friends on a Sunday afternoon. The place has stunning views and is not far from the city of Harare (less than one hour drive), but sadly, the beautiful place is not receiving many visitors, maybe because of the economic challenges facing the people. The dusty road to the reception area at the basement is not very bad and can be accessed by low profile cars. Worth a visit and recommended for the adventure lovers

Ngomakurira hike

About half an hour climb to the rock paintings at the base of the granite dome. To climb to the beacon at highest point about an hour further climb following painted arrows. Needed plenty of rest breaks to view lovely scenery. Younger people may go up faster. Well worth the morning climb started around 10am back down by 1pm.

Brilliant views

I enjoyed the hiking and the views at the top. The National Museums and Monuments will do better by putting proper signage and possible a restaurant like at Domboshava. Despite the lack of those, it was a good hike and the pricing was less than 20 rtgs for the four of us.

Well worth a visit!

A short car-ride from Harare. There is a sign (turn right) which was hard to see due to high grass. There was a small reception with parking- a few USD per person in entrance fee. A steep, maybe 15 min, climb (the path easy to find and marked with white painted arrows on the ground) to see fantastic rock- paintings. Many smaller ones and also a bigger train of elephants that we didn't notice first (take a step back). We followed the cleft further up (along the brook) and climbed to the top of the mountain. This part needs good shoes and at least some physical capability ;-). From the top of the mountain beautiful view.

go before this amazing untouched spiritual place gets commercialised. its old rhodesia...........before plastic bottles, bags, vendors, beggers, signposts, toilets, graffiti and all the modern day annoyances arrive. good road, national monuments kiosk to register. amazing rocks, views, paths, trees and all close to harare. go now, go soon, if you need an escort contact mountain club harare and ask to be their guest for the day . its only $10 and they will get you there and entertain you all day............amazing varied people

Take the more challenging route through the gorge - it's worth it. Decently challenging climb via the gorge - much easier on the way down on the main path.

One of my most favourite places to be. To see the sunset. To witness the beauty of the massive rocks. To sit and have drinks with people. A truly incredible wonder of creation.
