Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

From beginning it was easy to communicate with Welcome Ethiopia. Replies from Nick came quickly and were clear. He was helpful and gave us good advice about situation in Ethiopia. Together with my husband we wanted to travel 32 days by car crisscrossing the country and we could arrange the trip without problems. It was a smooth 32 days and could enjoy this country full of contrasts and great diversity. Everything was as agreed. We had a comfortable Toyota 4x4 which was perfect for the challenging roads. But what made our trip amazing was the very professional driver that was selected for our trip. After about 7,000 km together we can say that Mr. Mulugeta is an excellent driver, a must in a country with so many challenges. He became not only our driver, but our guide, companion, advisor and a source of information about the country. Always calm, respectful and ready to help us to make our trip worry free. He had eyes everywhere and could spot birds, wildlife and interesting spots for the best shots as my husband is a keen photographer. His long experience and many contacts in hotels, restaurants and guide associations was invaluable in getting the best services. We owe to Mr. Mulugeta and to Welcome Ethiopia a very interesting trip Ethiopia. We can highly recommend them. Unfortunately we could not meet Nick at the end of the trip because our flight schedule the last day, but Mr. Mulugeta send us off on his behalf. It was a great experience.

Welcome Ethiopia are really excellent. Our tour was very well organised. The drivers and guides were very friendly, on time and very knowledgeable. We had one or two problems but these were quickly sorted out by Nik. I would highly recommend using this company.

Thank you very much David. We were very pleased to have you and your wife as our guests and hope our ways may cross again in the future. Warm regards from Addis Ababa, Nik

Welcome Ethiopia did a first rate job. They helped us customise our trip. The organisation of the trip (hotels, transportation and service) was very good.
Special guides for culture, nature and especially "birding" where professionals with great knowledge and perfect understanding of our interests.
If we travel again to Ethiopia we will choose only Welcome Ethiopia, highly recommended.

As the organiser and tour manager, it took no less than 18 months of my life to pull this tour together! I had all but given up, until I was given an introduction to Nik Puppato, GM of 'Welcome Ethiopia Tours' in Addis Ababa. He pulled out all the stops, and went many 'extra miles' to ensure the success of this tour. We completed everything in the programme, with several bonuses along the way, as mentioned in other postings. We needed very formal authorisations in order to photograph the new railway, and the Addis light rail system. I think Nik probably gained a few grey hairs over this issue, but in the end he was successful, and we certainly needed that paperwork on many occasions. Railways apart, we had some great sightseeing experiences, especially the UNESCO World Heritage city of Harar, with it's daily wild hyena feeding! Simply quite amazing! Then there was Lac Ziway, with stunning birdlife, Lac Assal in Djibouti (the lowest point in Africa, at 155 metres below sea level, and many historic buildings in Addis itself. To top it all we had two excellent tour guides, Atseny and Dereje, who were simply worth their weight in gold! But without Nik at Welcome Ethiopia Tours, none of this would have happened. All 21 people on the tour viewed the end result as a great success. Thanks again Nik - I cannot recommend this wonderful guy, and his company too highly! Eleven out of ten hardly does him justice, so I'll give him a twelve !!!

Dear Colin,
thank you so much for your nice words. It was an absolute honor to host you and the Locomotive Club of Great Britain with us in Ethiopia and Djibouti. We hope that our rails will soon cross again.
Till then all the best, Nik

Our prime aim was to travel on the Chinese built railway between Addis Ababa and Djibouti and also ride the Addis Ababa metro. We were a group of enthusiasts mainly from the UK, This was achieved and we got a bonus ride on the former metre gauge railway which still operates from Dire Dawa towards the Djibouti border. Everything worked well apart from a 3 hour delay on the railway. At times security and administration was a bit over bearing. We had two very competent excellent guides from Welcome Ethiopia Tours. The hotels were comfortable.

The tour through the northern parts of the country was a exciting, interesting and astonishing experience with an well organized and always helpful Touroperator. The guides as well as the drivers were always reliable, on time, friendly (Jibekal and Abraham) and helpfull. Also the handover-takeover from one Guide to the other and the check in at the different hotels worked stressless and planned. The hotels were corresponding to the advertised standard and the offered food espacially in the Danakil depression was excellent.

The birding section of the trip went particularly well, and guide Elias provided an excellent service, speaking perfect English, and having a deep knowledge of birding matters. I was also impressed that he rapidly adjusted to my photographic requirements, and I obtained a wide range of good photos. I would recommend his services to anyone with an interest in birds.
Habtamu proved a very adequate driver (and just as well, given the road conditions in the country!). Throughout the tour he was a helpful and considerate companion, and once again I have no qualms in recommending him unreservedly.
I thought that the tour itinerary was well chosen, giving a fair range of different habitats (essential if a wide-range of species are to be seen), although in some locations this involved staying in accommodation that was a bit sub-standard by European standards. The bedrooms at Awash are decidedly "down at heel", although the staff were friendly and the food good. The biggest disappointment was the hotel at Goba, which is probably always on the cold side, but was additionally experiencing water supply problems, which caused washing and toilet problems.
All in all a great adventure, with plenty of photos to remember it by!

We were traveling with 7 people.
We travel as a group through the whole world.
with this tour operator it was until now
the most organized trip we have made. the driver Indi and our guide who speaks German, have fulfilled all our wishes. I can recommend jur the accommodations about this organizer book in advance. We also booked through booking.com but these accommodations were not as described. All of Nik were really great. altogether a very elaborate planned vacation with 12 stops. We were not disappointed in every way and would book Again!
