Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My favorite part about this museum is its location, perched on a hill overlooking the skyline of the city. This is a small museum that does pack in cultural artifacts and historical references to the city. I enjoyed my brief visit here and the walk around to see the city below. Getting here was a little bit tricky as we are not from here, the taxi driver couldn’t quite figure out the entrance, since it is not well labeled, but after asking a few people, we finally figured it out.

I visited the good museum in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian Science Museum. It is currently hosting a tourism exhibition in various regions of Ethiopia. With the many exciting information that Mr. Yosef gave me, I have been able to gain a deep knowledge of great Ethiopia.

If you are interested in the history of Addis Ababa, from its foundation in 1886 until today, this is the museum you must visit! The history is chronologically very well explained and supported with valuable photographs from all periods and items used in the past. This museum is a must visit and it is definitely underrated.

Lucy, the oldest human fossil ever discovered, was the center of attraction in this museum. The history of Ethiopia and its leadership is also well preserved in this museum.

We visited the museum with a guide. The entrance fee is cheap and I’d say worth visiting. You get to know their history before heading different area of Ethiopia.

Small museum with an entrance on Meskel square (not at the rear as on Google). Learned that Addis is a relatively new city, only founded in the 1880s. In the early 1900s it still looked more like a settlement. Igl a Swiss technical advisor played a significant role in development of the city and was a confidant of Menelik II. I liked the photos of the earliest stone buildings and the people.
On the second floor there is modern Ethiopian art. I was struck by three outstanding sculptures made by Girma Kidane in 1958. The paintings were less appealing. You better visit one of the galleries in town for good quality.
Entrance fee 50 Birr for foreigners.

Ethiopia has got so much history and I enjoyed every minute I spent in this museum
And of course Lucy was the main attraction for me. But the evolution of all the other animals on display was interesting.
This museum holds some very precious artefacts therefore the building could do with some refurbishment/upgrade which would place it in its rightful place globally.

It has to be said that for those used to top curated museums, the Addis Ababa museum could prove a little frustrating. While there are many interesting photos and artefacts, there is not always a natural 'flow' of information that leads one through Ethiopia's long history or adequately explains its rich culture.
Get beyond that though, take your time and I promise you will find much that is of interest. Fyi, for non-Ethiopian residents there is a fee of ETB50 (approximately USD2).
A couple of additional points. Firstly, there are no guided tours provided by the museum itself and so we took ourselves around. Whether one might enjoy a visit even more as part of an externally organised tour group, I'm not sure. So perhaps worth asking other Trip Advisor reviewers who have done so. Secondly, it is very close (100 metres) to the Red Terror Martyr's Museum which is very definitely worth taking in at the same time.

It's centrally located in Addis, walking distance from UNECA, Raddison Blue and not far from AU and Mexico Square.
You'll be able to learn more about the great history of Ethiopia.
The center of attraction is obviously the 'Lucy', which you can take a picture and show your friends.
Good for you, if you have a few hours to kill.
Carry your passport for entry ticket.
