We spent three weeks in the care of Ashanti African Tours, starting in Accra, going to the Cape Coast castles, then north to Kumasi, Mole NP, Tamale, and back south for departure, on an itinerary designed especially for the two of us. My friend and I are serious photographers. Capturing good images of Ghanaian people and culture was our objective. We were pleased with our results. Our guide Frank was adept at smoothing the way for us, always ensuring that the subject of our photos agreed with being photographed. He usually tipped the person we photographed, at no extra charge for us. He took special care for our safety in crossing streets. When we spent three nights at Mole National Park, where he and the driver did not stay (too expensive), they came each morning to check on our welfare. Our vehicle, an SUV, was new and clean. Our driver Eric was especially good, never took chances, and was alert to spot subjects along the way that I had expressed an interest in photographing. He also is very knowledgeable about birds, a special interest of my friend. The vehicle always had plenty of cold bottled water for us. The restaurants chosen for our meals were always good. A couple of the hotels chosen by Ashanti were showing signs of age or careless management, but most were excellent and we do not blame Ashanti for the hotel management. We would go with Ashanti again.
