We spent three weeks in the care of Ashanti African Tours, starting in Accra, going to the Cape Coast castles, then north to Kumasi, Mole NP, Tamale, and back south for departure, on an itinerary designed especially for the two of us. My friend and I are serious photographers. Capturing good images of Ghanaian people and culture was our objective. We were pleased with our results. Our guide Frank was adept at smoothing the way for us, always ensuring that the subject of our photos agreed with being photographed. He usually tipped the person we photographed, at no extra charge for us. He took special care for our safety in crossing streets. When we spent three nights at Mole National Park, where he and the driver did not stay (too expensive), they came each morning to check on our welfare. Our vehicle, an SUV, was new and clean. Our driver Eric was especially good, never took chances, and was alert to spot subjects along the way that I had expressed an interest in photographing. He also is very knowledgeable about birds, a special interest of my friend. The vehicle always had plenty of cold bottled water for us. The restaurants chosen for our meals were always good. A couple of the hotels chosen by Ashanti were showing signs of age or careless management, but most were excellent and we do not blame Ashanti for the hotel management. We would go with Ashanti again.

We (my daughter and I) did a 15 days private cultural tour through Ghana, Togo and Benin. Having done quite some travel including private tours in the past, we were used to how this works. However, we never ever had such a good experience as with Ashanti Tours.
Everything was perfectly organized, a great" thank you!" to Ernestina!
Also, our brilliant tour guide Edmond has taken us to so many interesting places we would have never been able to see without him. He explained cultural, religious and sociological issues of the region so well to us and answered patiently all our questions.
The car was in perfect condition, and our professional driver Prince mastered even the most crowded and the most difficult roads with such assurance and calm that we felt very safe during the trip.
In addition, the hotels were well chosen and provided very good quality accomodation, with often a special local touch.
I liked how passionate the whole team was about their countries and about how to give the best to the client.

In conclusion, we fully enjoyed each and every day of this tour and we can highly recommend Ashanti Tours to anybody who searches for a perfect travel experience in this region.

Ashanti African Tours exceeded my expectations .
I wanted a private Birding Tour with a little extra , Rosematilda answered my initial enquire with a suggested itinerary that included parts of Ashanti’s Cultural Tour , we played around in a further few emails and came up with something that suited me perfectly .
I didn’t miss any of the birds and during a 21 days tour also visited Museums and Art Galleries , attended Textile Workshops and visited Markets , a very rich mix .
Osei Johnson bird guide is one of the best I’ve encountered , Johnson’s ability to see and identify a bird by call was second to none .
Our driver Alex kept our comfortable car spotless & looked after us in general , making sure we had plenty of bottled water and fruit etc for the journey and hikes .
I greatly enjoyed travelling with kind , thoughtful , punctual and talented guide and driver .
Highly recommended AshantTours !

Ashanti African Tours was the local agency, in partnership with another company that organized a 3-week birding tour for a group of 8 people. Ashanti did an excellent job managing the tour, everything went smoothly. Transportation was always on time, hotels were booked, all very well organized.
When I travel abroad, I want to know the country and its people, I want to eat the local food and learn the costumes, in addition to seeing birds and other animals. Our local birding guide, Philip went above and beyond to attend our requests. Here a few examples. I told him I would like to try a Ghanaian cookie I saw on a book. He looked for a vendor and bought us the cookies (it was delicious). He also contacted a beekeeper so I could buy honey. Philip patiently answered all the numerous questions we asked about Ghana, even the most obvious ones. Philip has excellent ear, he can hear and identify all the birds in Ghana and he knows where to find them. He made sure we all saw the bird we were looking for, which was a particularly difficult task, as some people in the group had a really hard time finding them with their binoculars. Some birds tend to be hidden in the vegetation and Philip tried the best to coax them out, often with success. I ended up seeing 451 bird species, more than I was expecting.

We just returned from a private cultural and birding tour in Ghana in May 2024 by Ashanti African Tours, a travel company out of the internet, which convinced with sustainable and ethical priorities beyond professional birding expertise.

First we were a bit insecure, since we had no personal recommendation, just a homepage.

However we liked the organization from the very beginning, an intense and collaborative planning phase until the very end with our new friends. All the time we felt not only well informed by a very knowledgable guide in various fields, but also comfortable and safe out on challenging roads mastered by our driver.

It was an amazing experience and we will keep memories of our trip for a long time.

I discovered Ashanti African Tours 'via little Smart'.
As soon as our 1st email Christine replied immediately, this agency is extremely quick to respond to emails.
Our ornithological and photographic stay was wonderful.
You just have to know that the brightness is not always at rv and that some species of birds are remote, at least in the parks of Kakum and reserves Bobiri, Ankasa. However, the north of the country is a feast for the photo.
An extraordinary place to photograph this mythical bird that is the Picatharte as well as the plover of Egypt among others.
A fabulous guide at our disposal and warmly recommend Ebenezer, he pampered us well throughout the stay and impressed us with his knowledge.
The country is also interesting for the forts lining the coast (slave trade) and the multiple butterflies ... in short an unknown destination but worth a visit!!

A group of Canadian teachers did a 4-day private tour with Oscar from Ashanti African Tours. It was amazing. We saw sights in Accra city, Cape Coast, Elmina, Kakum park, and Boti Falls with other stops along the way. The slave trade stops were challenging but worth the time and a good reminder of the importance of knowing our history.

We are 4 spanish biologists and ornithologists who decided to travel to Ghana and made the decision to travel with Ashanti African Tours. We can say that it has been an awesome experience. The attention of the guide, James, and the driver, Prince, could not have been better. They were by our side at all times, since we left the airport.

The trip was perfect, James is an ornithologist with a very high knowledge, able to recognize every species he observes and hears, so if you are really into birds, like us, this is your guide. On the other hand, he also has a wide knowledge of any other type of life that inhabits the rainforest. They are also people with whom you can talk about any subject and who will make you understand their culture.

Moreover, they are a team capable of solving any inconvenience that may arise, in our case there was a problem with a hotel reservation and they were able to correct it without affecting the tour. There was also a lot of commitment to get us to the airport on time when we ran into a huge traffic jam.

We would also like to acknowledge the work that Ernestina and the team around her did in organizing the tour and handling all the questions that we had during the time leading up to the trip.

They are definitely a team you can trust and with whom we would travel again.

Ashanti African Tours had been well recommended to us by friends. Our experience exceeded our expectations. Everyone at Ashanti is very professional and kind with superb attention to detail and very well organized. Our guide Andrew and our driver Eric are not only excellent at what they do but also just really great people. Going with a local company like Ashanti and with a guide and driver who know the country intimately allows you to not only see and learn a lot about the amazing wildlife there but also learn about farming practices, cuisine, family and social dynamics, general culture, etc. One of the best trips we've done.
