My english speaking guide was excellent - she provided a comprehensive history of Madagascar kings, queens and prime ministers while we toured. The location is the former residence of the royalty. Worth the drive - though I would recommend hiring a driver - Madagascar roads and traffic = crazy.

mainly a good trip into the countryside. The historic buildings are a bit underwhelming, but you can wander a bit and enjoy the view

The highlight of our visit to Antananarivo and its surrounding. Interesting local history and culture. Definitely worth spending the money on an official guide. The region itself is relaxing in contrast to the bustling and polluted city, suffering from heavy traffic. Great views from the hill.

I give all the credit to Nona the female guide for making this visit perfect. She spoke great English for me to understand the traditions and the history of the summer house. I enjoyed that a lot of stuff was still original. During your visit you can get a feeling of how the king and the queens lived. The setting... More

Tana does not have much in the way of tourist attractions, but this is definitely the one you do not want to miss! Steeped in history, traditions, fady, and intrigue, this site has so much to see and understand, that it is imperative to have a local guide. I enjoyed learning that the compound walls were constructed with cement made... More

An hour of fighting through Antananarivo's traffic delivers you into a unique bit of Madagascar's past. This palace reflects the sometimes turbulent past both before and after the arrival of European missionaries and colonists. The day we visited the special fig tree by the entrance to the palace had just received a fresh set of Zebu horns as descendants of... More
