Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews

When visiting Mauritania, a D-Tour to Parc National Banc D'Arguin is worth the extra time. You take the road from Nouadhibou to Nouakchott and half way (at the Fuel Station) is also the entrance of the parc. You can buy tickets in advance (around €5,00 pp) or on the parc it self (which might be more expensive). You only can access the parc with a 4X4 and experience in off road driving is a plus.
The access road is 65km through desert with no roads. A guide is helpful (not required) and are available.
In the parc, a couple of villages are to be visited (Iwik, Ten aloul, Cap Tafarit) and they all have "camping's". It is (very) advisable to bring your own food. Fish might be available but all the rest is not.
You have to stay overnight and the next day, from Iwik by sailing boat into the parc.
This visit is absolutely worth is. Not very expensive but around €50,00 per boat. On the boat is nothing besides nice tea so bring some food and specially bottles water.
And don't forget your camera....

Walking on the beach in the morning, I could see no one else in either direction for many kilometers. A few playful dogs follwed me. We camped here three days and two nights, enjoying the beach and the desert. Visited the village of Iwak. Saw a beautiful starlit sky. This is ine of my favorite llaces anywhere

We expected a lot of sea-birds, pelicans, flamingos, etc. We did see them, but from quite a distance: the experience we hoped for. Our itinerary did not allow it, but a better option would have been to spend the time necessary to go further out to the islands for a closer look.

We went here for 3 days, bought our tickets before hand ( at Cap Blanc). You need an off roading vehicle to access as in parts there are no marked roads, just sand dunes and tracks! Each village has its own campsite, the faculties are very basic and in some places we were not sure what we were paying for. They are not to happy about wild camping. Take everything with you plus a full tank of fuel!
Scenery Is stunning and it is very peaceful! Lots of birds and other wildlife.

It is simply amazing how the absence of almost every thing can be so charming. You will find sand and salt water and birds and fish. The landscapes are changing, but somehow I am lacking the words to discribe it. It is calm and peaceful. Simply pure nature. Be prepared to take everything you need. There are only some very basic facilities in the camps.

We are captivated by the dawn as we set out from Nouadhibou to explore the Banc d'Arguin National Park.
In search of gasoline, we brave the checkpoints and the sandy roads of the desert. Guided by Sidi Ely, each obstacle becomes an adventure, a story to be told under the stars of the camp.
The Banc d'Arguin, between Nouakchott and Nouadhibou, amazes us with its marine biological wealth and its contrast with the desert. Nesting birds and migratory wading birds add a touch of magic to this wild environment.
At Iwik Village, we share authentic moments with the locals, savoring meals based on fresh, locally caught fish.
Our sailboat trip with the Imraguens fishermen is a magical moment where we explore the calm waters of the Banc d’Arguin, discovering the richness of the marine fauna and coastal landscapes.
The encounter with terrestrial fauna, such as golden wolves, transports us into a world of fascination and discovery.
Our trip to the Banc d'Arguin National Park is an unforgettable experience, where every moment is filled with wonder at the beauty of nature and fascination for the exceptional biodiversity of the region.
