About
Undoubtedly the tallest single-drop waterfall in Mauritius at about 100m high, the Chamarel Waterfall is a striking piece of nature standing amid dense vegetation. Fed by the waters of three distinct streams pouring into Saint Denis River, it has a powerful rush with a peak flow rate in excess of 40,000 m³ per minute. Overhanging the ledge of a basalt cliff, the Chamarel Waterfall splashes into an oval pool before flowing down a 6km tropical-forest-fringed canyon to Baie du Cap. The sight not only floods the senses with freshness but it is also a spectacular showcase of millions of years of volcanic activity. The dramatic landscape if formed by lavas of two different ages. The layer of brecciated basalt near the base dates from between 10 to 8 million years ago, on top of which lies a second layer from the intermediate period between 3.5 and 1.7 million years ago.No wonder why the Chamarel Waterfall is ranked among the most sought-after sightseeing spots in Mauritius!

Was a little disappointing as had been raining heavily the day before and the water was muddy and brown. Also the footpaths were closed for maintenance, so only 1 viewpoint.

A short stop away from where we were staying we visited this and 7 coloured earths the same day. No need to pay for a tour or guide to visit the view point. Either hire a car and visit or walk from 7 coloured earths.
We only stopped at the view point as the weather had been bad for hiking ( lots of rain) but it meant that the waterfall was full compared to other pictures we had seen.

We hired car and used maps.me to navigate our way around the island. Paid for Chamarel Waterfall and Coloured Earth. Good parking. Two places to see waterfall (one using steps to higher viewpoint). Well organised. Short drive to 7 coloured sands. Again 2 viewing/photo points. The furthest away better for seeing different coloured earth. The tortoise enclosure disappointing and small. Restaurant and toilet facilities good.

A simple and enjoyable waterfall, but very far from the point where we were standing to see it, but at other points it is better to visit it
شلال بسيط وممتع ولكن بعيد جدا عن النقطه الى كنا واقفين فيها عشان نشوفه ، ولكن في نقاط ثانيه حلوه يمها

The view is great, but if you go without tour a bit challenging to find a path to under the fall cave. One person offer me 100$ to reach threre. Well

Spectacular falls, and I’ve seen a few! Go up to the higher level (wooden steps going up to right of main viewing point) for the best view of complete drop

Must visit place in Mauritius, you get to explore some beautiful nature of Mauritius with it’s largest waterfall and the 7 color earth along with the chamarel restaurant offering some tastiest cuisine with the phenomenal views. There is an entry ticket that includes waterfall and 7 color earth viewing, you can purchase additional tours of wine factory with wine tasting experience (not required) but good for those interested and people who love hiking can also go for hiking.

Actually thought the falls were a bit underwhelming? About a 100m drop and was a fair flow on our visit but have seen many better but it was a nice view and spot, very crowded though? There are two spots to view from with similar results.

You can not go down to the waterfall. There is a parking lot right by the Viewpoint. From there you can walk around, 5-10min.

Nous n'avons remarqué aucun accès permettant de descendre s'y baigner, le lieu a l'air d'être un espace protégé au contraire. Vous nous direz si vous avez pu y aller ^^

Hi everyone,
I'm intending to go to do this walk and the 7 coloured sands without a guide or tous, would both the activites take a full day?
Also, is it easy to get to from Flic en Flac or do most people stay closer and go from Le Morne for example?
Please do reply x

Hiya!
I don't think that both these activities would take a whole day, but if you include travel from flic en flac then maybe it maybe a half day tour. Most of the sites which are on tripadvisor are in the south. Tour operator should be able to best advise how to combine activities to get the most out of your day. Hope this helps.
