We visited in late September 2018 this migratory bird sanctuary Rivulet Terre Rouge Estuary Bird Sanctuary (RTREBS). Upon arrival we were friendly greeted by a staff member who gave us background information and a leaflet with a description and pictures of the migratory birds which...More

I was rather disappointed at the experience. When we arrived there were 4 gents sitting at the reception. Although they were friendly they seemed rather reluctant to get up and show us around. One then went to get a telescope which he set up on...More

The sanctuary is a protected area for birds who traveled thousands of kilometers away from harsh winters to get a hotter temperature on the island! The migration period is from October to April and it is accessible to everybody!

best bird sanctuary in Mauritius. Good place to watch migratory and local birds, good photographic spot.

The rivulet is a resting place for traveller birds which have to fly over 1000 km from the nearest large land mass. They come seasonally and it is possible to see them in a natural habitat.

I was there at the wrong season but it's certainly an important bird area and I'm glad it's there. There's a telescope area in the building's upper floor, and a hide out on the river mouth.

The sanctuary is on the west side of the island. If you go there during the winter you can observe different migratory birds. There is a wooden lookout which makes it easy to take photos and not to be bothered by the sun. Make sure...More

I don't understand the poor reviews from others on this site. It is easy to find, with big brown signs as you drive through Port Louis. The reserve itself is small compared to British/western standards, with just a single hide but the warden on site...More
