- Christine CPerth, Australia199 contributionsGood food and shoppingIt was nice to spend a few hours at Le Caudan walking around the umbrella area and we had a good few options where to have lunch. The shopping was good too. There is enough paid parking which was reasonable priced.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 11 October 2023
- Benjamin JForest Side33 contributionsEat Pizza Hut there... but safety TAPE!?We took the Metro Express to get here. We had Pizza Hut there which was good but safety TAPE!? They should've fixed the loose bars or Belal/Candice shouldn't have existed. At Pizza Hut I had a pepperoni pizza and a Fanta. You can see ships, the bulk sugar terminal. Great parking; park on level 3 and get a pay ticket. Be careful you may get pissed off with broken 3 machine.Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 12 April 2024
- Markybug73Perth, United Kingdom214 contributionsNice spot but don't need 2 1/2 hours on the TUI tour imoThis was the last stop on a smaller half day multi stop TUI tour. As its at the end of the trip you are left to explore the area and shops. With TUI you are left for 2 an 1/2 hours here before collection and in our experience that about 1 hour too long. After you have looked at the local crafts shops in the mall and had lunch its basically a half empty shopping Centre to wander round. i would have preferred a extra stop somewhere else, or a walk round Port Louis itself ?Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 May 2024
- KardoesieSouth Africa4,356 contributionsLively @ Le CaudanA lively waterfront with an ever-changing set of umbrellas, live music, art exhibitions at the Caudan Arts Centre etc. Loved the little shops, coffee shops & sea facing restaurants. This should occupy you for an about an hour. Do walk from here to either China Town or a museum for more sightseeing. Ideal for a peak into the Port Louis waterfront.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 6 June 2024

Inside the mall there were a lot of small businesses selling crafts and all sorts of nick nacks, t shirts, hats, magnets, artworks etc… it was quite interesting looking around and in most places the staff were friendly but I couldn’t get the wifi to work anywhere. My favourite unit in the mall was a guy who made traditional Mauritian drums, (Ravannes)…he had left his shop unattended to go and get some food so we had it to ourselves for a while… he was very cool and when he returned he explained about the Ravanne and how it is played. - Kathryn DEdinburgh, United Kingdom1,122 contributionsVibrant waterfront area in Port LouisOur taxi driver brought us here in December and explained a little history about the area and how it has been regenerated. Lots of ships moored in the harbour and a little ferry across to one hotel. Plenty of car parking. Very vibrant area, particularly in the run up to Christmas, with beautifully decorated Christmas trees and decorations. Dropped into a little arcade with handicrafts. All so colourful. Plenty of places to eat and drink but unfortunately we didn't have enough time.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 21 August 2024
- P I60 contributionsNice place to visitOn a less warm day we have visited the Caudan Waterfront at Mauritius. It is close by the central market and the Urban terminal. Both great markets to visit for the experience and souvernir shopping. However don’t forget to bring your bargaining skills as you need them, to get reasonable prices. At the waterfront there are lots of shops and restaurants. We especially enjoyed the craft market in the centerVisited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 26 August 2024

Refused to accept documentary proof especially passport copy (acceptable here in past years). Claimed it was too dark to scan - untrue and refused to try and scan it. Seems new covid world we live in brings out unfriendlty and rude attitudes of staff and possibly obtuse racism. How to harm an island fragile tourist economy by ostracised them and making them feel welcome. Caudin Casino needs to learn that hospitality industry requires some actual hospitality.

With the shopping malls always crowed and the busy city life nearby, the Caudan can be a perfect place to be just to stop by and spend some time away from the rush especially in the afternoon. Went there some month on an afternoon and had a great moment. The place is a good spot to have a walk or sit and relax. Or do some shopping or have some food.

Much has changed at Le Caudan since our last visit in 2015. The umbrellas are still there with a plethora of small stalls selling a wide range of souvenirs, trinkets and clothes. The fruit juice stall is still there and there are are several food stalls at the museum end. The big loss are the interiors of two buildings that house housed some great shops. in particular some good souvenirs. They are currently being refurbished and a lot of noise is coming from the building works. The Port Louis Waterfront buidling is also be worked on so none of the waterfront restaurants are there. The shops, restaurants and cafes along the main waterfront are all going well and at lunchtime today everything was buzzing. No idea of the timeframe for the building works but things seem to be moving in the right direction. Had a great Thali at Mystic Masala - highly recommended

Looked at the pictures and read some reviews about the food scene and decided to take a taxi into town to see what it was all about.
Le Caudan area was ok, but they are still building and it needs a bit more variety. Hopefully, when the new bit is finished, it will be better.
As for the areas surrounding Le Cauden: central market, china town etc, well that is more for locals in my opinion. Very run down, so tatty that it is hard to believe that people live and work there.
We purchased some spices at the market which worked out unbelievably expensive - I felt like a very stupid, gullible tourist when we walked away!!!

Hi, thank you for your review. The area under construction might not have been in our location. Same goes for the market and China Town which are out of our area completely.

Very nice atmosphere and lots on lovely artisan shops and places to eat or drink.
You may find truly beautiful original handicraft goods (for example papier maché or suede leather) but it is a pity that amongst true merchants there finds those who tell you lies about local spices or coffee and sell you the same coffee beans for the price of 1500 MRU that local shops sell for 225 MRU.
Of course you can come across impostors anywhere in the world and this is not a high price to pay but it leaves a bad taste to your mouth about an otherwise lovely place.

We asked our local tour operator for a place to buy spices and he bought us to a small shop inside the mall. For 3 bags of curry and tandoori spices plus 21 grams of vanilla gourmet, we were shocked to see we were asked MUR 21’000, which is about EUR 450! Beware of the scam prices!

Very bad experience. Everywhere close at 8pm including food court. Rather exceptionally bad considering Mauritius is a touristic destination and we are talking about caudan which is one of the prime attraction in the capital of Mauritius... One of security guards approached a couple who were causally holding hands and told them this is not allowed and to leave the viewpoint...that's crazy

The Waterfront is a sizeable multi use complex, serving as the only real attraction in Port Louis. There are shops, restaurants and hotels in the area.
The place is a nice detour for a hand in hand stroll at sunset.

If you're planning to visit Port Louis, Le Caudan Waterfront is the place to go. The center has, for example, many shops, a cinema and several restaurants. There's also a market where many souvenirs are sold. There are several spots where you can get a nice view of the water and the city center.

Good day. I am going to work in the Cauden Waterfront for 12 months starting Jan 2018. I have pre-booked an apartment in Port Chambly. Could you please advise on what the best mode of transport will be?
So far it sounds like buses. Do you have an idea of the buses driving this route on a daily basis? How far will I have to walk to get to the stops etc.
Our office is in Barkley Warf.
I will highly appreciate any detailed information on my transportation issue.
Kind regards
Anton Mitchell

Dear Anton,
We were on Mauritius on a holiday. We took a taxi from our hotel in Flic and Flac to the waterfront. Arranged by a local agent, Cathay Tours in Port Louis.
We also took the bus a few times. Altough the schedule of the buses is irregular, they are a good mode of transportation on the island.
How far you will have to walk, I cannot tell.
Yours truly
