Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Jummah Mosque is really impressive and the local friendliness is really great.
We were in a mosque for the first time ever and when entering a mosque I had small concerns, but after a few steps a believer came to us and explained to us where we find what, which area to enter, that we are allowed to take photos and if we have any questions we can always contact him.
Madness, can't be like this everywhere....
A wonderful experience, just great!!!!

The mosque is located in the capital city of Port Louis. It is an okay type of architecture and doesn't require much time to see. If you are on short stay, you can give it a miss. Most of the population in the capital city are Muslims as they were the workers for the french colonial regime and preferred to settle down instead of coming and going every now and then. Some walls have really beautiful engravings.

Jummah Masjid in Port Louis dates back to the 1850s as is one of the earliest mosques built in Mauritius with major additions done to the structure in the 1890s. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful religious building in Mauritius. Unusually for a mosque its welcomes non Muslim visitors and holds regular guided tours of the mosques.
For Muslim visitors its worthwhile going there for Friday prayers but get there in good time as it will be packed. On the Fridays you will also have street food sellers congregating outside.
The structure of the mosque is along Moorish and Mughal styles. Inside the mosque you have an open court stand where a Badamia tree grows. The tree is as old as the mosque itself and gives it an unusual character. There are fans that whirl to keep the congregation cool. Its styling will definitely make you feel that you are in a mosque in Africa.

One of downtown's landmarks. The white outside walls literally shine in the sun. Pretty inside too. Dress modestly as it is a functioning mosque. No shorts or short skirts. Bare arms for women not appropriate. Nicest Mosque I have seen here, Friendly people

A very nice place to visit. Its right in the center of town, not far from China Town. Thought its right in the busiest part of the city its always calm, quiet and peaceful inside. It can be visited at day time but try to avoid payer time.

Nice mosque in a very busy area of Port Louis. It is quite beautiful inside with it's architecture so it is worth a quick visit here although I have seen better mosques all around the globe
