Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Saint-Louis Cathedral is located in the heart of the city. Its black color is quite remarkable.
The interior is also worth a look because the metal structure is unusual for this type of building. Completed in 1933, the cathedral is open to everyone.
As its name indicates, it is dedicated to Saint Louis (Louis IX)

On a day shopping trip in Port Louis, we lost our way and ended up here. The cathedral looked imposing form the outside, but the interior was simple and such a stark contrast to the European churches that we are so used to. Calm, peaceful and an oasis in the midst of a bustling office area.

We arrived on New Year Day, maybe that was the reason why it was closed, so we couldn’t go inside. It is a nice catheral to me and the thing drew my attention is the statue of the Madonna. She doesn’t hold a pigeon and a stem of olive as normal, a sword and a crown? I can’t see clearly instead.
It’s worth a visit but not a paid tour.

You have to admire the tennacity of the faithful in Mauritius as this is a church built on the site of one that fell apart, and the one before that, and the one.....
Sat in a small area of parkland amid the the trafic housing and commerce the Church and park are a sight for sore eyes having walked up from the harbour area. As a traditional European style church the building stands out from the sourrounding structures and is very photogenic.
Inside it is cool and calm and the very model of a Catholic church. Although one may walk past this church anywhere in Europe and not give it a second glance here it demands respect and really stands out and is something of a must see in Port Louis.

St Louis Cathedral is a small but popular church with the Catholic community and the Chinese population of Mauritius. There is an information plaque that gives you more information on this church rebuilt in 1932.

Loved visiting this beautiful piece of architecture. Magnificent & majestic and above all peaceful. It reminded me of my visit to cathedrals in Rome and Paris.

We very much enjoyed stopping here to take a few pictures of this old historic church. The outside of the church has very nice landscaping around it. Inside, I really enjoyed seeing and studying all the stain glass windows. They told of the life of Jesus Christ from his mother's pregnancy to his death on the cross.
BOTTOM LINE: Loved it. Recommended to anyone visiting Port Louis to stop in and see this historic treasure. I love seeing old churches like this and their grand stature in a community. MY RATING: 8/10.
