Jeff Ajueshi, the artistic director gave us a personal tour of a wonder collection of paintings and sculptures. I had read that Nigerian artists were becoming appreciated in the world as never before and I see why. With keen eyes and beautiful pallets of color, they gave a national tour of treasures.Go, spend time and enjoy some magnificent art.

I got there at 4 pm, and the place was so serene and inviting. From the gate, you already get the artsy vibe. When I got in, I was awe-struck. It's not every day you see so many Nigerian paintings and sculptures in one place. I went from painting to painting, sculpture to sculpture, and it was only when I saw the bios, that I realized that some of those pieces were created by our greats: Bruce Onobrakpeya, Twin Seven Seven, Jimoh Braimoh. Everything on display is for sale, according to the curator.
Who knew there were non-Egyptian African cultures that used writings similar to Egyptian hieroglyphics? I was honestly shocked.
The piece that caught my attention (and which I hope to get when I get enough cash for it) was that of a metal sculpture of an eagle with chains on his neck and chest, attached to what seemed like a bell. Given that Nigeria's national animal is the eagle, it just spoke to me.
I intend returning this Saturday with a friend. Go with a friend, a loved one, a date. It's free. Definitely a must-visit.
P.S. You can't take photos of the art. You can take selfies of yourself next to the art though. I'll post pictures of my visit next week.

This is a wellbuilt art centre, from the gates to the interior and lighting. The sculptures outside are quite lovely to look at as well. I love the serenity i feel when i visit and love to take friends there
There is a main Art Gallery on the Ground floor with several works on display and I like that they host different art related events and exhibitions (Freedom Hall, One Environment Exhibition,etc.) on the top floor and most times access is free. You can check their website for their schedule.
They have a variety of artworks made with different mediums by different artists on display so there is something of interest for everyone.
I was told pictures are not allowed on the main gallery floor.
They also have Spice Platter Restaurant next door on the same premises.

The art was great. My son loved the art from different parts of Nigeria. Restaurant was not for international food.

Thought Pyramid Art Centre in Abuja, Nigeria is well worth a visit. It’s a very nice place. They have amazing art there.

My first time visiting an art gallery in Abuja! Impressive! Really liked all the pieces on display both paintings and sculptures.. I hope to have more time to sample the food in the restaurant located next to the gallery! :-)

Beautiful collection of everyday Nigeria scenes, plus abstract and expressionist works for ye high art snobs. It's a gallery not a museum so it's geared towards buyers than gawkers like me though I was not made to feel uncomfortable. The pieces are not overpriced seems like standard prices you would expect in any urban gallery. The paintings were the highlight for me, but the sculptures are gorgeous as well.

Lots of interesting, affordable pieces. The building itself is a work of art. Most intriguing. The Spice Platter Restuarant is in the same compound.

The Thought Pyramid is a lovely Art Gallery with an aesthetically brilliant environment! It has a wide, expansive space- (over 2 floors), and a unique, sparse metal fencing around the 'well-manicured', gorgeous property. There is a restaurant- (SPICE PLATTER RESTAURANT), on the premises of The Thought Pyramid, right beside the entrance to the gallery. It was founded by Creative Director, Gallerist and Curator JEFF AJEUSHI in 2007/2008. Ajeushi wanted to create an artistic space with "no boundaries between art, craft, design" and how thought could "enable new ideas to be intubated and nurtured".
The Thought Pyramid Art Center's mission statement is "to collect, conserve and study modern and contemporary art of Africa and the African Diaspora". They are all about enriching the lives of art lovers that "advance creativity, artistic excellence and innovation for the benefit of humanity and our environments". The Thought Pyramid has 2 branches- one in Lagos, (Ikoyi), and this one in Abuja. I had so wanted to visit the Lagos branch on a recent trip, but unfortunately didn't get the opportunity to do so. This wonderful Art Center was famously visited by Her Royal Highness Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Joachim Gauch, former President of Germany, as well as other important dignitaries and notable diplomats.
The Thought Pyramid Art Gallery hold events like exhibitions, theatre performances, symposiums, workshops, musical events, lectures, art education programs like M.A.P (Music, Art & Poetry Program) that teaches poetry, music and art to "enable our kids appreciate, embrace, nurture and preserve our cultural heritage through artistic expression" and lots more! The art at The Thought Pyramid includes, (but is not limited to): ACRYLIC PAINTINGS, BEAD ART, COPPER FOIL WORKS, EXPRESSIONIST ART, MIXED MEDIA- (with a specific focus on the use of ankaras and newspapers), SCRAP METAL, ABSTRACT ART, HIEROGLYPHIC WORKS, SURREALIST ART, MODERN & CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS and OIL CANVASES, etc. I was particularly drawn to some really cool scrap metal/metal statues of a raging bull, ostrich, horse and some muscular men placed outside the Thought Pyramid building, plus my favorite- one seriously funky cockerel or rooster inside; 🐓 (refer to my posted pictures).
Some of the well-known Nigerian artist's works that are available at The Thought Pyramid are BEN OSAWE, SAM OVRAITI, JIM BRAIMOH, TWIN SEVEN SEVEN, BRUCE ONOBRAKPEYA and many others. These artists are 'tour de forces' in the Nigerian art scene. There's also several 'efforts' by numerous other African artists that are simply amazing! It's worth mentioning that The Thought Pyramid had a number of festive portraits/paintings/murals of women where African and local fabrics were used in the most creative of ways. These pieces were incredible! 😍 Please refer to my posted photographs to see what I mean. We interacted with JOANN and FRIDAY on the day we visited, and they were very polite and helpful, so I'd like to say thank you to them for the professionalism. JOHN- (the gateman) was also of some assistance to us.
So to conclude, The Thought Pyramid Center/Gallery is a phenomenal must visit for art enthusiasts and regular folk alike. Mr. Ajueshi has succeeded in putting together ravishingly beautiful pieces of art. I'd love to come and spend a whole day in this wonderful creative space. It's stone-like building and vivid, bold metallic structures and sculptures adorning the lush greenery on the gallery's grounds make The Thought Pyramid a very attractive sight to behold. It indeed is an 'attention grabbing' property! 🤩 Besides, it's location is ideal; conveniently nestled in Libreville Crescent- a quiet, winding, cyclical road in Wuse 2. It is a breathtakingly beautiful and impressive establishment that I couldn't find any fault with it, therefore I will rate it perfectly! 👌🏽 Can't wait to return and sample Spice Platter's culinary delights. 😋Something to look forward to! 😉 Please do endeavor to check out The Thought Pyramid whenever in Abuja, or if you're here already because it will be soooooooo worth your while! Highly, highly recommended!!! 👏🏽👍🏽
