The view is simply magical. The car trip to get there is totally worth it. The temperature was 30deg Celsius when we left the coastal road and it was actually 11deg by the time we reached the plaine des sables, a view point on our way to piton de la fournaise. Do bring a jacket as it gets chilly up... More

We were here for one day and took the ships tour from Cunard. Excellent choice. Not only is it worth the trip to see the volcano but the trip to the top enables you to see a good amount of the island and it is very beautiful. The Cote D" Azure meets the Indian Ocean. I only wish that we... More

Firstly, this is an amazing experience and highly recommended. This is the 2nd Volcano we have climbed (1st being Rinjani) and was fairly easy, apart from the last 30 mins, when actually getting near the rim and quite steep (keep on going though, its worth it!). Time: We were advised that it takes 5 hours up/3 down. We are fairly... More

We were on a cruise ship disembarking in Reunion for one and a half days only. We had a Volcano and Salazie full day tour and the Wild South half day tour. On the first day we started early, at 7am to reach the volcano long before the noon when the visibility gets worse. The road to the volcano snaked... More

A must see when visiting the island! We were short on time and could not hike around the volcano but seeing the natural beauty of this area takes your breath away

A must! We started a bit late at about 10:00. My husband thought the valley below was the volcano! We then started our decent into the valley. Going down the stairs into the valley should give away what is lying ahead! The route is well marked and there is boards giving you times of how how long it will take... More

One of the most awe inspiring walks you will ever do. This massive crater is home to world's most active volcano. You MUST get there early in the morning and take plent of food and water. Once you're in the crater the temperature and terrain are unforgiving. The alk from the car park to the crater lip is five hours... More

We were advised to go early to see the sunrise on top of the volcano. So we set off at 3AM, it was very cold at this time so be prepared with a fleece, jacket, head torch, water and snacks. We arrived a the crater to see the sunrise with nobody else around, what a special experience! We were at... More

The hike to the top of the volcano and back to the starting point is not an easy one in the scorching heat. The walk and climb are not difficult though. We saw people of all ages on the hike. Be careful though, because we saw 3 hikers with light injuries from falling. This was indeed the highlight of the... More
