Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We always run into him when we're in town.
We often come to Togo for humanitarian reasons and this structure certainly has great historical value for the Togolese
Very interesting architecture.
It definitely deserves more reviews and publicity

National monument, closed to the public (maybe because it was Sunday). Some kids lay around there on skateboards. And that s about it.

Monument de l'Independance is nice to see. The monument is fenced off which prevents tourists from getting close pictures.

It is nice to visit but nothing special about it. It is importance come from its history. If in town, then its worth a visit.

We stayed at the Radisson Blu and this was literally across the street. Easy walking distance and you could probably spend about 30 minutes to an hour walking around admiring the carving. the promenades, the palm trees, fountains and people watching. Check with your hotel concierge though as the park that it is in is only opened at specific times, so if its open while you are there, you can get close up views of the monument.

The monument is iconic and sits conspicuously in Lome.
Typically any taxi man will get you there for circa $5-8$,if you are adventurous you may take the Motorcycles for a far lesser sum
The monument is almost always under lock and key however you may walk around it.
There are no tour guides and have been told that pictures are not allowed.

It’s a must drive-by… It’s completely fenced off so you can have a nice look in and take some pictures but since it sits on a circle you’ve got to park your car precariously for a quick look and a couple of shots. It’s on the same grounds as the Palais de Congres so you can see both with one visit!

Located in the government sector of Togo and surrounded by fencing, but we spoke to the maintenance man and paid him 1000 cfa, he obliged and we got some nice close-up shots. A unique monument that is carved out as a human in celebration. Not much else to say apart from the main fact of Togo gaining independence from France in 1960, which obviously means a lot more to the locals than us tourists. Nice flooring and gardens that surround and it probably is the most modern looking part of Lome. We included this in our Lome attraction day..

The Beautiful Part of Lome is the Monument de l'Independance, clean round-about with green trees around it and lights at night.
Nice place for photography.

Came at the right time - late on a Sunday evening - and the very nice security guard let us in for 10 minutes or so. Although it looks extremely fenced off it is definitely worth asking whoever is there guarding it - worst they can say is no!
It's a pretty cool structure from up close and the whole area is extremely well preserved, especially the garden. Not much else except for a nice 10 minute stroll but it's probably the most impressive monument in Lomé.
