WHITE, CLASSICAL & ELEGANT STUPA !
 The Vase shaped chorten of almost 50 years in city centre.  Inside explore paintings, statues, shrines, carvings ETC… all so beautiful.  Study the exterior and interior carefully to get an insight of Buddhist philosophy.  Top floor gallery offers a spectacular city view.  There are in total 4 entrances, but just one is in use.

Many locals visit for their spirtuality
We visited mid morning and there were already many locals either walking clockwise around the brilliant white building or sitting silently in a shady spot meditating. It was constructed in 1974 to honour the third king of Bhutan by the king’s mother. Well worth a visit when in Thimpu.

Very serene place despite being a popular attraction in Thimphu
I went there many times with my guests. Very serene place despite being a popular attraction in Thimphu. It can get a little crowded on weekends and public holidays. Still you can get good views and capture photos from all angles. The surrounding hills and lush greenery of the garden contrast well with the white-washed chorten.

Good for a short stop by
It was one of first spots we went. Not just visitors, many locals were there too. It was good visiting the inside and listening to the stories. My guide and I walked clockwise around the chorten for few circles and felt the blessing.

Every tourist Entry BTN: 1,000/ is compulsory.

Is a good time to experience turning the prayer wheel and then following the locals, old and young, to walk clockwise around the beautiful white Stupas.

The feeling is so peaceful and understands that the walk is like gaining merits and enlightenment. You shouldn't miss this!
God bless!

It’s always so calming and uplifting to see the spiritual community in harmony.

I love visiting the Thimphu Memorial Chorten. I am filled with a sense of peace and tranquility when I am surrounded by its beautiful, colorful architecture and surrounded by the smell of incense in the air. Every time I visit, I make sure to make a circuit around the main stupa and say a prayer. I always take a moment to appreciate the amazing detail of the structure and its various statues and murals that illustrate Buddhism and its teachings. Spending time at the Thimphu Memorial Chorten is always a very spiritual and enriching experience for me.

This shrine is major hub for worshippers in the city where there is a constant stream of people walking clockwise around the stupa from dawn to dusk. On close observation, it is quite a sight. Very few tourists there; it is primarily still a place of worship for Bhutanese people.. It was built by the wife of the deceased third king of Bhutan as a memorial and was completed in the mid 1970’s.

Part of the reason I enjoyed visiting the Memorial Chorten in Thimpu was the population of elderly Bhutanese Settled in for a day of prayer and atonement. I felt very much “a part of” as I turned the prayer wheels between elderly women squatting with their baskets and blankets under shelter of the wheels. It was a lovely interlude.

An amazing place to visit in Thimphu. When I visited this place it was cold and windy, however, that didn’t stop the many people to go around the stupa 108 times. As always, I say, people should dress modestly and show respect to this place. Beautiful stupa.
