I had tossed up about going or not, weather, visibility, cost etc. But was best Kathmandu experience. Cloudy in valley, clear up. Got local bus from Ratna park, a 15 min walk from Thamel, 25 rs. About an hour. They only take nrs or us$ or u can use your card. Very well organised n maintained. Cable car ride itself is great. The top is heaven. Breathtaking views, even though there was low clouds day i went so not clearest but faintest glimpse of everst. Annapurna range beautiful. Either inexpensive food n drinks at food court or can dine in style upstairs in licensed restaurant. An extra 50rs.for viewing tower but worth it. I would say a definite must for visitors to Nepal. Staff friendly n helpful. Also nice temple.

It's a 45 mins ride from Kathmandu city center. If you are a Chinese, do bring passport with you as the cable car ticket is with discounted rate (USD15 only while USD22 for other foreigners). Thanks to Nepalese Government and the company operating the cable car !
The cable car ride is about 10 mins. There're some activities at the hill top including a temple, view point, restaurant, kids playground. I saw a resort hotel too !
It's 3 C when i was there in the morning, so do wear more clothes. It's a hazy day unfortunately and I couldn't see the mountains.
Overall it's a nice place for me and I enjoy my time here.

Located around 45 minutes from Kathmandu the Chandrgiri Hills complex give you a good view of the City as well as a unique experience.
The Cable Car ride takes about 10 minutes each way, and I was lucky to visit on a day with small crowds-- maybe because it was pretty cool and a little cloudy.
There are some restaurants and the opportunity to go a little higher to the viewing area and temple at the 'top'
Altogether a nice way to spend a couple of hours.

This place is a bit of hidden gem in Nepal. Located at about 2 hours drive from Kathmandu, the best way to reach the top is by 15 minute ride on a cable car. You might have to wait a bit to get your turn for the ride, but the view is worth the wait. You can see all the Himalayan ranges from the top and if you want a better view, you can opt for binocular viewing for some extra money. The temp is freezing here so do take some extra care. There are lot of selfie spots for photo crazy people, a temple for the devotional ones, some restaurants serving all sorts of fast food so you will find something for everyone. This is a must go place if you are planning a Nepal trip.

Took the family in Dec. Got their in the morning. The cable car ride is spectacular. The views from the top are inspiring. The temple is also beautiful. Be sure to note the cable car does not run during lunch (hours posted) so we had a lovely morning wandering around the top, enjoying the views, and enjoying a hot chocolate, and caught a cable car back down before they shut for lunch. It is a bit expensive but worth it. It is also worth it to pay the little extra at the top to use the viewing platform which includes the use of some large binoculars to see the mountains.

A ride up the Chandragiri cable car was one activity of our day tour of Kathmandu. It was well worth it and only took half day. It took about 40 minutes by car to get to the bottom of the hills and, happily, there wasn't a queue at all so our guide went to get us tickets and up we went. The cable car is quite new, only about 2-3 years in operation, so that was comforting to a certain extent! The ride up took about 15 minutes and the view was fantastic - luckily we had very clear weather. Important to go up on a clear day, if you can choose. At the top there is a small temple and a restaurant which sells snacks and drinks. We saw that they are building a resort which is scheduled to be completed in the not so distant future. Worth visiting.

Chandragiri Hills is a very well maintained property slightly away from the city but worth a visit. The ropeway offers breathtaking views and the temple of Mahadev above is beautiful. You can do zip lining, view the Everest through telescope and your child can play in the playzone. There are numerous food options. Pls remember that the ropeway is non operational between 12-1 pm and 4-5 pm.

We are 6 altogether and stayed at hotel trekkers home in thamel. Trekkers home team organized the day tour for us only at 2000 per person. Good team organized the trip very efficiently. Will definitely choose trekkers home team for our next trekking in coming days.

This place is bit expensive as the cable car charges 500 per student and the cafes are not so reasonable. The place is a bit crowded but the view is mesmerising. It is a fun spot and also has a separate children playground.

We decided to hike up to Chandragiri Hill (2,551m) on our 3rd day from Mandala Studio. We had to skip one yoga class to acclimatize before our Pikey Peak trek next.
Rum was the guide going with us on the hike. He was friendly and taught us a few Nepali words during the trek. It was surreal that I found out the fruit tree near a yellow house was his house. The yellow fruit turned out to be a pomelo or bhogate in Nepalese. It was very sour vs the version back home.
For a regular hiker, the trek up to Chandragiri Hill is easy but all the way uphill. We took about 3.5 hours to hike up to the summit. After lunch, we took a cable car (USD13 ticket for adult below 60 years, USD10 above 60 years) down and return to Mandala by a taxi which overcharged us.
At the summit on a clear day, you could see Everest and Langtang etc. Unfortunately, on the day we went, the weather was misty. We ate vegetable and chicken momo at a restaurant and they were tasty and yummy! Unlike the solitude during the trekking trails, the hill was filled with tourists. There is a zipline for the daring!

However, make sure that you go in the right season.
October is the best season for visiting Chandragiri hills.
In other times, the Himalayas are hidden by thick clouds.

How much is the cost per person for chandragiri cable car? For the SAARC country people..
Written 14 October 2019
Hikes are possible if done totally meaning, going up and down by yourself.
If you use the cable car, you are charged for a return trip, so they do not have the option of one way cable car and return by hike

Is it ok go chandragiri hills by bike
Written 18 February 2019
Hi, you definately can go from Thankot uphill riding, quite steep, so you have to have good legs... You can from the top of the pass divert to Chandragiri cable car top station and furter to Hattiban, or descend in the chitlang valley and further to Daman or via Markhu (there are some Guest Houses) to Khulekhani and drive back to Kathmandu passing to Dakshinkali and Balkhu to Kathmandu. Did it myself on a moto bike in one good day, by mountainbike i suggest to stop in Markhu by the lake and enjoy a good fresh fish ... make it a 2 day tour. BTW i lived 10 years in the area ad did several trips to Chandragiri and beyond to the Terai ore roud trips like above or also through Daman ...
