Just wonderful, probably the best place in Nepal. A must see and I recommend Dil B Lama-Tamang. He is a registered tour guide and did a great job touring us through Kathmandu. He is so knowledgeable and patient. A great asset to the Tour Industry!

It's possible to walk the long stairs or take a taxi up. Much better to walk. You feel a sense of reward when you reach the top and also get some excersize!;) And it will make the whole view more impressive after than if you just step out of the car when it's already more than halfway up. We started at the bottom of the stairs which everyone should do. It was amazing when we got up there. Lovely little shops for souvenirs, view from up there is amazing .

Lots of steps to get to the temple - be warned. Great views of the city. Some damage from the earth quake to a few buildings are well on the way to being repaired. Lots of souvenirs to be had - the big locks had me fascinated & I wish I had bought one now! Watch out for the monkeys... More

I was taken to see Swayambhunath by a friend. The temple a very holy place for Buddhists and there were lots of families taking in the sights. However, I did not feel crowded or jostled at any stage. Met some travelers and we decided to go for a walk to the Temple it was near our Hotel in Kathmandu. We left quiet late after visiting many different sites in Kathmandu so we ended up being there at night. It has many steps, some of them are not straight so be careful when walking up there, take some water.... More
