Visit this fort will allow you to understand the history of Tainan and Koxinga's encounters with the Dutch. Although not much of the original fort remains, it is worth a visit to see the physical manifestations of the different eras in Tainan's history. If you...More

I visited Chihkan Tower as the sun was setting and it was beautiful. It was a nice, relatively quiet place to visit at that time too.

You won't learn so much about history here but the place is definitely interesting and beautiful. If you go there around 6 pm, you might enjoy set of lights on the steles and the tower, and also a little concert with different singers around 8...More

Most information was available in English which is a real plus. The place provides excellent examples of how Tainan and Taiwan have been influenced by the Dutch, Chinese, and Japanese. If like me, you don't know much about Taiwan's history, this is a good point...More

Pay the entrance fee. Allow 30-40 minutes if you are an average tourist. Allow at least one hour if you are a history buff, especially if you have read about recent British archeologists' claim the Chinese discovered America before Columbus.

What a crowded place, very busy. Maybe I went on the wrong time but there were busloads of groups: chinese and foreign. Not very expensive to get in so give it a go.

Ticket costs 50 TWD (25 if you have a student ID). It is a short but worthy visit in order to know more about Tainan's history.

It is the remains of a Dutch colonial fort so why rebuild on the foundations in the Chinese style and not something more approaching the original Dutch buildings? It's really a pastiche of nothing in particular : pleasantly laid out gardens with fish pond and...More

West Central District/ North District
The West Central District is the most populous and the
busiest area. A lot of shops and hotels crowd the
district, and the long-standing history results in a
variety of street food. In addition to that, this
district also has the highest number of temples. This
is how it got the name “Tainan’s Pantheon.” Historic
buildings are literally ubiquitous. For example,
