We enjoyed the cruise ride, dinner, fireworks, music, hospitality. Our ship was Alangka Cruise. As expected the whole ICONSIAM was packed with people, especially when we returned to pier around 12.45 AM. It took us almost an hour to get into the building of ICONSIAM from the pier. Crowd management is not very good. My wife's Ninewest shoes were torn in the crowd. It was 1.45 midnight. For the first time I got to know Sevel Eleven sells rubber sandals. What a relief! But, the nightmare started after that. It took us more than one hour to find a tuktuk and I had to make him understand and convince him that I would pay him 500 Bhat if he takes us to Nana. There were still thousands of people on the road looking for taxi, grab, tuktuk, something or anything they can get. There should be some arrangements if such big parties are arranged. It was an mixed bag experience from all aspect.

I decided to take my mother to see Bangkok by the river and the Loy Nava Rice Barge tour seemed good to me as the teak boat looked nice, it included dinner and the boat would pass some of the more famous landmarks.

First the positive: The service is nice, you get traditional Thai food and the tour is well thought through. Being on the tour I got the feeling of a well-oiled machinery with staff who has done this a thousand times before. I would like to draw the parallel to being on a flight where the flight crew knows exactly what to do and when to do it and with a smile.

The negative: The tour is overpriced and too touristic. I paid 1.900 baht per person. Considering that I could have hired a longboat privately for two hours for 1.000 baht, stopped at Mandarin or another five star hotel and have a very fancy dinner for say 1.000 baht per person it would still have been cheaper. Or I could even have taken the local commuting boat for 15 baht and eaten a lot of better traditional Thai food at a stop for less than 300 baht per person this was indeed expensive. I guess you pay for the service of getting someone to arrange all for you.

I am really allergic to more-sales and there is a lot of this on this tour and you don't know if you have to pay extra. For example in the list of what is included in the tour it states that a wine list is included. Does that mean that wine is included in the price? Not, it just means that you can have a list of wine to buy. The menu states that coffee is included. At the end of the meal the staff goes around and offers espresso. I would then expect this to be included in the price, but no, only regular coffee is included and they don't tell you. When you get the bill the bill clearly states that there is a 10% service charge (I.e tip) but still when you go off the boat the staff stands with baskets asking for more tip. This makes me feel that I am getting ripped off all the time. So instead of relaxing and having a good dinner I have to wonder all the time what is included or not.

Who should go? People staying for a few nights only who don't know Bangkok and wish to pay extra for have everything accommodated so you don't have to think.

Who should not go? If you know Bangkok or don't mind doing some research or wanting a little bit more of adventure or the "real" Bangkok then go on the local boat for 15 baht and eat by a restaurant by the river- it is more fun and cost you a tenth.

Booked the New Year Eve Dinner & Fireworks for my family on the Roof Top of Royal Princess Cruise. The dinner was obviously understaffed. It takes forever to get our plan water refilled and even harder to get a glass of soft drinks or order a glass of beer.

Very poor crowd management. Guests from the cheaper lower deck all crowd to the roof top deck after they have had their dinner. If I had known that the roof deck was free for all, i would have purchased the cheaper lower deck tickets.

We had to ask many times for the glass of sparkling wine which is part of the package. I saw the waiter serving the sparkling wine to the "standing" guests (these are the guests from lower deck that had crowded the top in anticipation of the fireworks) but not to us. It was until my husb almost lost his temper that they got us our sparkling wine.

Fireworks was not that great. We stopped some distance away from Asiatique and quite far from Icon Siam. The best fireworks seems to be those at Icon Siam but we could not see them from where we are. I had expected them to stop the boat at the best spot, that is the only reason we purchase these tickets.

In conclusion, we would not go for this cruise again.

They'll try and sell you a colour-coded trip from 1000 Baht upwards. Go to the ferry next door - day pass for 150 Baht - hop on hop off as much as you like and goes ultimately to the same destination. Boats every 20 mins or so in either direction. The Grand Palace is crowded, but the stop-offs en route are very pleasant for riverside refreshments/shopping.

We went on a dinner river cruise it was aprantley the best one!
Not....
Thank god we got to sit upstairs, first they take you over an hour early so that you wander around buying crap at the river shopping mall. Then they hussle you on board, make you line up for food like pigs at a trough while been tortured by two singers? Well that's what they were called, then hustled of the boat so fast you didn't even see them clapping in relief to see people leave. I looked for something to poke my eye balls out however there was nothing to use as they cleared the table so fast. I think I would have preferred to stay home and pull my nails out with a pair of plyers. More fun

Most important: the closest BTS Skytrain stop is SAPHAN TAKSIN which is a few steps from CENTRAL WHARF. (Google Map had us take a LONG bus ride!)
This is the cheap tour! We took the Orange boat for 15 BT a trip. Each time you get on it costs 15 BT, so you can ride the whole length for that price if you don't get off and there are not sights at every stop.
There is also no one giving commentary or even telling you what is at each stop: do your home work!
Having said this, it is a pleasant (and cheap) way to see the river and everything near it - quite a bit actually.

Anyone visiting Bangkok must go for the evening cruise in the river chayo praya. There are many options but the best is the one done by Hotel Riverside bangkok. I am sure that the experience will be among the best. The curise starts at 8pm and ends at 10.30 pm. One needs to book in advance. Choose the 8pm sail as this has ala carte menu which is very reasonably priced. The charges are 150THB plus the food you order.
