Hi Cideleon,
Thanks for your question! The food is different with both tours, and they are both different experiences. The below tastings may sometimes vary depending on vendor availability on the day
On our lunch tour Old Siam we visit an old district of the city and a food market called Nang Loeng, that's been feeding locals since 1899! It's is a mix of traditional Thai cuisine with some dishes you may never have tried, including hoi tod with mussels, miang kham 'flavour explosion', Thai curry, and Thai royal desserts. There's also some dishes inspired with different cultures infused into Thailand's culinary history, including the kanom buang yuan crispy mungbean pancake, and kway jab yuan pork noodle soup.
Our evening tour Bangkok Backstreets is around the narrow lanes of Yaowarat, Chinatown, where guests can learn about China's centuries long influence on Thailand and how it has permeated almost every part of the cuisine, from noodles to stir fry. You'll find tastings such as khao ka moo braised pork, pork/shrimp dumplings, kanom gui chai chinese chive fried pancakes, and poh taek seafood soup.
There is only a small crossover with a few tastings, but each tour has slightly different versions. For example there is curry on both, where the evening tour with chicken and winter melon curry, and the lunchtime tour with massaman curry and some others. We have kway jab pork noodle soup on both tours but 1 is with rolled noodles and 1 with flat noodles, both with different level of herbs and spices.
Of the selection of the tastings, we'll leave a few as a surprise! Our guests can expect 15+ tastings on each tour. Many of our guests do both tours, but we wouldn't recommend them both on the same day, as there is lots of food!
We look forward to hosting you on our food tours in Bangkok :)
Best,
A Chef's Tour
