Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Assumption Cathedral is located in Bang Rak District, Bangkok, Thailand. It is a Roman Catholic church which was constructed from the request of French missionaries and completed in 1821. The cathedral was reconstructed many times. For example, during the World War II in 1942, the church was seriously damaged by the bomb, so it was restored and partly refurbished in 1980s and 1990s. Stained glass window are used in the cathedral today. The cathedral was visited by 2 Popes, including Pope John Paul II in May 1984 and Pope Francis in November 2019.
I visited the Cathedral during the Holy Week. The cathedral was a very beautiful architecture. There are stained glass windows around the cathedral which told us the stories from the Bible both old testament and new testament. On those days, I thought the choir sang so sweetly and peacefully while I was attending the masses. I really recommend you visit this Cathedral. It is opened every day for sightseeing, or you can attend the mass which is held on Saturday 5 p.m., and Sunday 7 a.m., 08.30 a.m., 10.00 a.m. (English Mass), and 5.00 p.m.

I've lived in Thailand for several decades, but had never gotten around to visiting the Assumption Cathedral until recently. Boy, have I missed out! The cathedral is very impressive, with a soaring arched roof and spectacular ornate dome. Tasteful stained glass windows and lots of gilt (not to mention guilt of church-goers!). Visited at Christmas time so the church was beautifully decorated.

This is a very beautiful cathedral located at a walking distance from Novotel Bangkok Silom Road hotel where I was staying during my vacation in Bangkok. The cathedral is very big and equally beautiful both the architecture at the outside and the inside. I liked the colorful stained glass windows inside the cathedral showcasing events from the life of Jesus Christ. This is a must visit attraction in Silom.

The Romanesque architecture of the cathedral is so breathtaking! We spent as much time attending the Mass as we did taking photos.
To top it all, the priest was very friendly and welcoming and he made time to meet and greet as many people as possible, talking to them and blessing them. We were also fortunate to be blessed by the priest.

We had already passed but had always found it closed without the possibility of knowing anything about the opening times. Luckily we tried on a Friday morning and there was a service going on. The interior is very colorful and illuminated with beautiful windows. The outside with the square in front is also nice (but when there are no parked cars).

We came here because we had gone to have breakfast at the Mandarin Hotel. The cathedral is not a minute away from the entrance to the Mandarin Hotel. Unfortunately, the cathedral was closed the day we visited. We wanted to visit one of the 3 orthodox cathedrals in Bangkok. Quite beautiful on the outside.

We crossed over from Mandarin Oriental Bangkok, walked along a narrow driveway and reached Assumption Cathedral. It is hidden from view by surrounding buildings save for the narrow driveway that leads to the cathedral's car park. The cathedral's facade is beautiful. Inside, the high vaulted ceiling, architecture and decoration are grand and awesome. The cathedral's website has a lot of interesting information.
During our visit, a service was held to remember His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej who passed away a few days earlier. Hymns were sung and prayers were lifted up to the Heavens. All who were present enjoyed a sense of calm.

I attended the English Sunday mass at Assumption Cathedral. While they have only one schedule for English mass on Sundays (10am), the atmosphere was very sacred and welcoming.
